I'm heading to Atlanta in June. I have two evenings from around 3pm till 12am to search the Atlanta area for great brew to mail back home (and drink a few).

What would you guys recommend? I doubt I have time to go to Terrapin in Athens.

I know I'm going to Orpheus and Sweetwater.
    Where else would you recommend?

Also, any great beer stores to pickup some local gems to mail home?

I'll be based in Northern Atlanta (by 285/400).

    Thx,
    J

Hop City would be my first choice, but's closer to the city. The The Porter Beer Bar if you get a chance.

Total Wine has a good beer selection for some stuff to ship home. Don't know what days of the week you will be there, but Monday Night Brewing is good and has a great atmosphere. Westbrook and plenty of other breweries outside of GA distribute there if you want more variety to send home.

Here are my suggestions. I would suggest others before Sweetwater but Orpheus is a great call.

    Breweries
    - 3 Taverns- a great brewery putting a Belgian twist on American brews. One of only 3 breweries in the US with a brewmaster brought in from Belgium. They are doing some great one off things only available at the brewery. Highly suggest catching this one if you can. Also beers are higher ABV and with 6 drink tickets for $10 it's a great deal.

    - Wild Heaven- just opened up their new tap room and have some great one off brews only available at the brewery. $10 again for 6 tickets high ABV.

    - Monday Night and Red Brick have good beers but more of a college party scene if your into that.

    Beer Bars

    - Porter Beer Bar- amazing beer selection with the best cellar/vintage beer program. There food is really good too.

    - Brickstore Pub- Great selection with a whole separate bar upstairs dedicated to only great Belgian beers.

    - Wrecking Bar Brew Pub- They are whipping up some great brews that hold their own against most craft breweries. It's a short walk from Porter so go there after for a beer if you are in the area.

    Beer Stores

    - Greens hands down is a must visit. Great bomber selection. If it's distributed in Georgia, Greens gets it.

    - Hop City- go to the new one in Krog Street Market. They also have a bar for on premise consumption. But either are great.

    Hope this helps. Cheers.

Check out Creature Comforts in addition to Orpheus if you can!

Brick Store and The Porter Beer Bar are musts, as is Wrecking Bar.

Three Taverns and Blue Tarp are close to each other, and not too far from Ale Yeah.

If you want to visit a brewery other than Orpheus and Sweetwater, I suggest Monday Night and Jekyll.
