I'm going to ACNJ this summer for a birthday. I went last summer for a weekend and ended up at BoneYard every night (which i'm not complaining about). I thought the selection was decent but i'd like to see if there are any other noteworthy bars i could find good brews at. any type of place (big/small, cheap/expensive, whatever) would be fine.

    thanks y'all.

The place is a complete shithole, but this is the best place.

Theres another place not in the casinos/boardwalk area called the Vagabond or something like that. Not outstanding, but solid.

True, it is a dive but a dive that I've been able to have 120 Minute on draft.

Two places I'm generally happy to visit is Harry's Oyster Bar in Bally's, and Mussel Bar at Revel. Harry's is a good lunch spot that has had some of the Jersey locals on tap (Carton, Kane, Tuckahoe), and Mussel Bar has a good selection of Belgian beers and literally the glassware for each of them.

Both are somewhat touristy, but in AC the options are limited.

+1 to Mussel Bar, wide selection of beers that range from decent to very good.

I like Harry's Oyster Bar on the ground floor (literally) of Bally's. It's easily accessible from the boardwalk with a good outdoor set-up, and the indoor bar is good too. Loads of craft bottles and plenty of draft options, too. The menu goes from bar food to dinner entrees. And there's a raw bar. Not a dive, not pretentious. All ages of adults.
Come to think of it, the bartenders were friendly when not full bore busy and they knew the beer.

I was gonna come and say vagabond too so another vote. Better bet is to take a train to Philly and back though.

If you get the chance, Cape May Brewing is a short drive down the parkway. They have a tasting room and the usual brewery swag available. Not widely known, but they have some solid beers.

You could put a few back at the Tun Tavern. It is a brew pub right across the street from the convention center.

Village whiskey in revel can be a sleeper spot for good beer in revel as well

The selection as I remember from Village Whiskey was pretty decent when we ate there for a bachelor party last year. I remember having to actually make a decision as to what I wanted (which wouldn't happen if there was just random stuff I've had before on the menu) but I honestly forget what all they had. We are going back in a couple weeks and eating there again. I enjoyed it there.

What does the beer menu look like in the Mussel Bar in Revel?

Lots of Belgian styles. They have about 20 taps of decent stuff. They feature Antigoon which Weidmaier has at his different locations. I've had Saison Dupont, Bernardus Abt 12, and other solid options at the bar. They have the glassware for just about everything they pour which to me was a cool perk. I've also had local stuff from Kane and Carton on tap there as well. Like I mentioned before, it is a tourist trap more than a craft bar but I'd figure anyone would find a good option if they went.

I'll echo Village Whiskey. They will have 10-15 craft bottles available, plus you can throw back an old-fashioned or 2. And the food is excellent. Mussel Bar looked promising, but they close way too early. I think I tried to go there at 10 and it was already closed.

I usually end up at Borgata because she likes to play poker. Staff there will suggest you go to "Long Bar" and you should ignore them (Boston Lager + Sam seasonal, Hop Devil, and SNPA; two-three of which are kicked at any given moment). Gypsy Rock Bar has Blue Point Toasted Lager and a beer of the month (which on one occasion was Duvel). 28 West is a cool piano bar with the best bottle selection in Borgata.

That basically sums up my experience with Firewaters as well, though I think shit hole is a bit extreme. The last time I was there I had a pretty good discussion about beer with the bartender.

Firewaters is just the mullet of bars...beer business in front, liquor party in back.

That's actually a pretty accurate description. haha. It's the type of place that's best visited during the afternoon or early evening. It isn't the best spot late at night.
