I haven't really cared for any Atwater beers I've tried but sounds like they will have a bunch of one off beers specifically for this location. They're supposed to have a beer garden also, which if done right I could be spending a lot of time there! I like Founders outdoor patio area but feel like GR could use a decent beer garden.

I was pretty excited when I saw this... Not because I've been blown away by many Atwater brews but I really dig the location and like you mentioned, the idea of another outdoor place to relax and enjoy a brew is pretty exciting.

    Nifty.
But I'd be alot more excited to hear that a brewery from GR was going to set up shop in Detroit. I've really not been overly impressed with the beer coming out of the D.

same thoughts from me. I am not an Atwater fan. Haven't found a beer yet that would raise my eyebrows. Often I see something new, and will look it up, and seems like its another subpar offering.

not that reviews/rating are the be all end all but they barely have ~4 that even crack a 4.0 on BA

I enjoy the location-specific beers brewed at the Atwater in the Park in Grosse Pointe Park. Hopefully they get a good head brewer in there. Competition is tougher in GR than Detroit, for sure.

My gf and I did a 5k race this spring at Atwater. Afterwards there were food trucks and all that around. The food available was great!! The free beer we got for doing the race... a warm Dirty Blonde, was NOT great. I don't think either of us finished it before we went and bought some cold Grand Circus. It was much better. And drinkable!

Here's how the exchange went down in my house:

Wife: Hey, some brewery is opening up a new beer garden in GR!
Me: (excited) Niiiiice. Do you remember which brewery?
Wife: I think it's Hat something or other.
Me: (really excited, like jumping up and down) Witch's Hat????
Wife: No, that's not it. Hat Water, maybe?
    Me: Oh, Atwater?
Wife: That's it. Yeah, that makes more sense than Hat Water.
    Me: (exasperated, disappointed sigh)

I swear, sometimes I think she's just f-ing with me.

Decadent Dark Chocolate has one of the finest noses around, and the taste is pretty good, too. The rest is meh. I'm with @Joshjv ,we need some westside loving to come out east

I'll have to try the decadent dark chocolate, I've always been disappointed with Atwater so I pass it over. I agree, you guys could use a few higher caliber breweries on the east side of the state, I only feel like I'm missing out on Kuhnhenn and Witch's Hat.

Pfsh. And here I thought Atwater was one of those generic house beers that grocery stores sell to have their own brand. I never see them in craft bottle shops or beer bars.

Dragonmead is awesome, too. And a hop and skip away from Kuhnhenn. Their Final Absolution is one of my "If you were trapped on a desert island " brews

That's what I was thinking. For a brewery that doesn't make very good beer they sure are spending a bunch of money.

Well, breaking news here on BA, Atwater is a shell company laundering $ for some evildoers in Detroit. Couldn't launder it fast enough there so they've decided to set up shop here in GR. I say BOYCOTT!!!
(entirely joking BTW, in case some mod with a stick up his butt reads this and shuts the whole thread down)

Atwater is fine or whatever. A lot of "non craft drinking" people in Detroit like Atwater so theres that. For me my opinion of them was raised significantly by the location specific beers brewed at Atwater in the Park. But seriously I have no idea how Vanilla Java Porter keeps getting on 'best of' lists. All I ever taste in that beer is added vanilla flavor.

Maybe they'll put the right beer in the right bottles this time. Or not.

    Atwater can suck it.
