New brewery finally selling beer up north in Blaine/Bellingham. If you have any questions please ask on the facebook page. The owner/head brewer Josh can respond there. http://atwoodales.com/atwoodales/ https://www.facebook.com/Atwoodales/ We're all about the 750ml bottle format. On Friday, find our first bottles on sale at Drayton Harbor Oyster Company -- drink them there with your fresh shucked oysters or take them home to enjoy later. Then, on Saturday, find us at the Bellingham Farmers Market for our first of many days there this season! Samples and bottles to go. Our Farm Is Where It All Starts Located just 18 miles north of the burgeoning Bellingham brewery scene, on the outskirts of a scenic seaside town, is Blaine, Washington’s first, and oldest, brewery – Atwood Ales. The unique setting provided by our 100 year old farmhouse and barn and the surrounding acreage is not only visually compelling, but also provides countless opportunities to directly incorporate estate and locally grown agricultural and natural ingredients into our small batch beers. Our family owned farm and brewery produces a variety of ales, with many in the spirit of the French and Belgian farmhouse ales that help to inspire our brewing passion. Keeping Farmhouse Brewing Alive The farmhouse tradition of brewing dates back several centuries to the European countryside, primarily in the regions now identified as Belgium, northern France and western Germany. The tradition is one of growing raw materials used for brewing, and using these on the farm to produce rations for thirsty farm workers and for trade with other farmers and merchants. Although there are now a number of breweries producing “farmhouse style” beers in North America, there are very few literal “farmhouse breweries” and we are proud to be part of a small group of these rural, agricultural, farm breweries keeping the tradition alive. The beers produced in our small production brewery always use ingredients grown on site when possible and when appropriate. At least a portion of the hops, fruit, vegetables, herbs, grains and other agricultural and forestry products we use in our recipes are grown, harvested and processed on our farm. The small scale of our brewery and the seasonal palette of flavors provided by our crops, as well as the natural landscape, help us craft an artisan product that carves out its own special niche among the fantastic, award winning, pacific northwest ales and continental lagers brewed by our comrades in nearby Bellingham. Committed To Respect of the Land As a working farm and brewery, taking care of our land and the Drayton Harbor watershed is an important consideration through every step of our production processes. Whether we’re composting spent grains to later spread on the hop yard, irrigating our crops with nutrient rich brewery process wastewater, or expanding stream buffers and wildlife corridors by adding native plants, we’re not just trying to make great beer, we’re trying to respect the land that allows us to make great beer. Find Our Beers While our brewery is closed to the general public and we do not operate a tasting room, our beers are available in bottles and on draft at select locations throughout Whatcom County, including Blaine, Ferndale, Lynden and Bellingham. Take note of the calendar and join our mailing list for opportunities to attend brewery tours, farm dinners and special events.
