Hello, I'm going to be working in Augusta Maine for the remainder of the year, was wondering if any one in the area knows of a good home brew supply shop. Also if you know the area, recommendations on good bottle shops would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm originally from Bangor and only know about this place: http://www.mainiacbrewing.com/ Not sure on bottle shops, but the Liberal Cup in Hallowell is a solid brew pub with good food.
Not much going on in Augusta, Jeff, but you'll be inside an hours ride of Freeport, Brunswick and Portland and some great bars, brews and supplies. You could also run down Route 17 to Rockport, ME(about 45 mins): https://www.facebook.com/RedWitchHomeBrewingSupply And get your Oxbow fix next door in beautiful Camden while you're there: http://www.40paper.com/index_files/Page294.htm
There is a shop in farmington assumong it's still open. It was solid until the owner drove away the dude that managed it for him. Actually now that I think about it, there was even two locations... Farmington and Augusta. Kennabec Homebrew supply was the name. I eventually gave up on the place when I lived up there and took to ordering most shit from Midwest or other online shops. Jokas in Waterville is the bottleshop you're looking for. And yeah, you'll be a regular at the Liberal Cup. It's solid relative to what you've got to choose from in that area.
Take Rt3 east about 50 minutes to Belfast and hit up Marshall Wharf. Great beers in a fun little town full of beer folk.
These aren't home brewing supply shops - BUT if you're going to be in Augusta, then be sure to hit "The Liberal Cup" in Hallowell (brewpub in the town just south of Augusta) AND Oxbow Brewing in Newcastle (about 25miles away). Both are well worth multiple visits.
The Lighthouse is a great bottle shop 10 or so minutes from Augusta in Manchester. Central Street Farmhouse is about an hour and a half north in Bangor and is an awesome homebrew shop. Bangor also has a great beer bar, Nocturnem Draft Haus
