Popping my Austin cherry tomorrow and wanted to see if there were any notable events (beer or otherwise) going on this weekend. I'll be staying at AT&T and my only beer plan so far is heading over to Jester King. Any food suggestions on the road to Jester King? Also, what are the best bars within walking distance from AT&T? Thanks a lot!
Close to AT&T: Dog and Duck is closest and has some good taps. Hopfields is a little further and in the opposite direction and is one of the best spots in town. Further South past Dog and Duck, you could also take a nice long walk to Rainey St to hit up Banger's. Easy Tiger would be on the way too. But, I like to take long urban beer hikes. A bus will get you downtown in a hurry too. Not a lot of note going on. I am sure there are some mediocre tappings going on around town that will get blown out of proportion. You are on the right track by going to Jester King. I will see you out there. I will look for the overalls. Make sure you give the thumbs up regularly so that I can be sure it is you.
Bars/BrewPubs: Draught House, Black Star Co-Op (Dockhand is the shit). Pinthouse Pizzeria (try The Admiral or Irish Seal (not the best, but good for the winter, The Man O' War is their best in-house beer). Hit up Easy Tiger too. Great people, amazing food, and the tap-list is always promising.
The pizza joint adjacent to Jester King (Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza) is going to be open for business today... I'm heading down there with the family today to the tasting room. It's literally 500 feet from Jester King's door.
I'd take a taxi down to Banger's Sausage House on Rainey St. or Easy Tiger... the only thing within walking distance of AT&T is Scholtz's Bier Garten, which is more BMC/German than local/craft (I THINK they have Live Oak though).
I may be to late but I'd say grab some tacos at torchys before heading to jester king. There are a few locations and you'll want to eat there instead of to go(bigger tacos). Trailer park(get it trashy), dirty Sanchez, green chile pork, and I'm not sure what special taco this month is. Seriously, like an orgasm in your mouth.
This month's taco is 'Naughty Santa' which features shrimp & chorizo. I think Mr. Pink is the best fish taco in Austin... fresh seared Ahi tuna. Yuuuum. *lives across the street from a Torchy's
"other than beer" if you know who Dangerous Toys are, they are playing at the Red Eyed Fly. although for a club type place, the draft list online looks halfway decent for beer. Me and BAbaracus will be there after 8pm.
