I live in Austin and am looking for a bar with a wide selection of German and Belgian imports. I was on the road in Wichita, KS recently and found this place called "The Anchor". They had 4 beer coolers with a DEEP selection of Belgium and Euro beers, both bottled and on tap. I thought surely I could find something similar in Austin. Namely, I'm looking for a bar that carries a Belgium IPA called Piraat (if you haven't tried this beer and you see it out, DO NOT PASS UP THE CHANCE TO TASTE THIS BEER). Thanks in advance for any replies.

Unless you are specifically looking for it on tap, I've seen most Specs in Houston have 4 packs of Piraat.

Used to see Piraat all the time about a decade ago. A lot of imports stopped being as freely available as other US craft breweries started distributing. For instance, I used to be able to get Aventinus on tap just about everywhere; it's been years now since I've seen it at all.

I tend to avoid bars that do overly Euro beers and much prefer US craft.

With that said, Whip In used to have 10-20 taps dedicated to Euro stuff (as well as the bottle selection), so that may work.

All Gingerman locations have plenty of German and Belgian offerings. I have not been to the Austin bar is some time, but you should find plenty there.

Sorry but pretty peeve of mine. Belgium is a country in Europe and the Belgians make Belgian beer. Just like we don't make America beer.

Anyway in Austin whip in is your best bet

Austin is pretty awful for Belgians on draft. You'll probably see Duchesse and Chimay White around town, sometimes at reasonable prices. Bottle prices for Duvel, Rodenbach, Rocherfort, et al border the absurd, but I guess there's not much choice if you actually want to drink a Belgian beer right then.

Pretty much all of the craft beer stores will carry the big names like Piraat (and the rest of the Van Steenberge portfolio we get here). The only difficult to find Belgian beers are the ones imported by Shelton which just disappear for months at a time.

If you like Piraat, you might try Poperings Hommel Ale.
