    Afternoon BAs,

I'm passing through Austin on Friday and I'd love to grab some ABW Fire Eagle or Black Thunder while I'm in the area. Are their beers widely available in the ATX area, or should I check specific stores?

    Thanks!

Not sure if you're just going down the I35 corridor or east to west but any Specs Liquor will have it. If you're going down I35 I'd just stop at Twin Liquor at Hancock Center right off the interstate or the Specs off Airport Rd...I'd bet they have it at both places. It's pretty easily obtained around town so it shouldn't be a problem finding some...

Which way will you be passing through town? I will plug that information into our proprietary beer run optimization program, which will let you know the quickest and easiest locations in which to stock up.

Off the top of my head... Whole Foods Downtown, Spec's, Whip In, South Lamar Wine & Spirits, East First Grocery, sunrise Food Mart, Barton Hills Food Mart... pretty much anywhere but HEB.

Although we're not in every HEB (I believe there are over 50 locations in Travis County), we do have beer at: Hancock, Circle C, Far West, Lakeway, Westlake, Bee Cave, and Brodie.

Which heb would you consider north?

SPEAKING OF WHICH, i thought the mopac parmer store was best, NO WAY. went into pflugervilles HEB that sucked and walked into real ales devils backbone, dark quad and coffee porter.

Needless to say i was floored.

Far West is up near Sunrise Food Mart. It's like 10 miles north of Downtown on Mo-Pac.

That store has a killer selection... also check out the gas station in the parking lot (tons of craft)

So past the river/lake going south must be the equivalent of South America and Circle C is Antarctica to ya?

I misspoke earlier. We're in HEB Lakeline, not Lakeway. It's just southwest of the intersection of 183 and Lakeline Blvd.

The former beer manager of Far West recently took over and is working hard to expand their craft selection.

If you're coming south on 35, just stop at the Specs on 5775 Airport (MAP). I was there today, and they have a mountain of ABW cans - all 4 styles, and I think they're $6.99. Easy off and on the freeway, too.

Thanks for all the responses and the lively discussion on Austin's geography  I was planning on driving through on I-35...but I hear that there will be a huge Formula 1 race in town this weekend, so I'll most likely bypass Austin on the toll road to escape the inevitable traffic hell. Does ABW make it as far north as Georgetown or Round Rock? Or are there any stores along the 45 toll road that might carry it? Thanks again all.

Wrong choice. The toll road is HOW you get to the race, so that will be the worst road of all. 35 will surely be busy, but not as bad as the toll. And yes, Round Rock will have some too, but they might not have all the varieties.

The other option is to take 35 S into Round Rock, take 45 W and then Mopac ( Rt. 1) South. This will allow you to come into/through downtown on the west side, which should be less busy, since the race is on the east side. And you can stop at Specs Arbor Walk instead, and they have it too.

Good looking out! Think I'll take the 45 W / Mopac route then
