Can only make it to Austin on a Tuesday (driving up in the morning from San Antonio) and it looks like Jester King, Real Ale Brewing & 5 Stones are all closed on Tuesdays....Any suggestions for a beer bar where I can find these breweries on tap? Plan to hit Live Oak-Oddwood-ABGB-Pinthouse-Austin Beerworks while in Austin. Any others I might be missing? Cheers....

For beer bars, Craft Pride (all TX taps and a few casks) and Bangers Beer Garden (house made sausages, I think right around 100 taps) are about a block away from each other on Rainey St. Draught House will have a few house made beers, lots of taps and cask.

Thx. Also looking for recs, I'll be in downtown Austin TH-SAT for work. Doing JK all day saturday, but hoping to hit something Friday night as well.

JK is usually hard to find on tap off-site. Real Ale basics should be easy to find. Fireman's 4 is one of the "go to" beers in Austin. As mentioned above, Craft Pride and Bangers have the best tap walls in town. If you are downtown and able to do a quick Uber, hit ABGB or Oddwood...both easy rides from downtown with great beer and pizza.

If you are up on a Tuesday, then I would recommend Pinthouse Pizza, ABW and Oddwood. Bonus would be ABGB, Zilker and Hops and Grain.

You won't find JK on tap. I don't think I even see 5 Stones on tap much, but Craft Pride would be the place for that.

Easy tiger Linc, the new one off Airport blvd, has JK Noble King on with 2 of the Real Ale Mysterium sours.

JK is starting to pop back up on tap more. Better Half has one tap for them fairly regularly (rotates) and Billy's on Burnet recently tapped Noble King. You may not find the ones you are looking for, but they are out there. Live Oak, ABGB, PH, ABW and Zilker are all a good call. Maybe hit up Brew & Brew to find some stuff you won't see many other places. Have fun!

I was at the Lamar location 2 weeks ago and only had growlers and crowlers. Grabbed a growler and a pizza to carbo load before the Warrior Dash.

I will be in Austin next week. Is WhichTap a good place for to-go beers? Or someplace else? Also I plan to go to JK this Sunday (hoping they will still have MvB) but what other breweries is best for families?

I believe “Last Stand” is just right down the road from JK, and I even enjoyed their beers more. More of a typical chill brewery experience. I wouldn’t necessarily call Live Oak kid-friendly, but it’s by far the best Austin brewery IMO.

Do any breweries in Austin have barrel aged stouts right now?

Karbachs' Hellfighter variety pack has dropped and is available at Specs in Austin. Granted they were bought out by InBev a few years back, but it is a great bargain at < $15. The BA Mole is probably one of the best beers I have had in awhile

St Elmo has Rye Fieri on tap right now (rye barrel imp stout). Pinthouse had some on tap a few weeks ago, but they look to be done. Actually, Red Horn has some of their BBA Suburban Ninja variants on tap still, and they crowler. Austin really is lacking in the big stout game, at least for consistent options. Most breweries only release one once a year.

Hey man - I feel like we like the same stuff. I’m in Austin for two days and only have time to do one beer related thing. Would you recommend Craft Pride or actually going to Live Oak (or another brewery [or bar] - not JK which I’ve done before)

I'm going to Austin in about a month for a golf trip. We arrive Wednesday the 18th and are playing at Horseshoe Bay. Wednesday during the day I'll have a little time to kill to hit up breweries - sounds like Pinthouse and Live Oak might be the best options for that (especially since I will likely need to stay close to the airport to pick a couple guys up). Are there any solid craft beer stores nearby that you guys would recommend? I'd be picking up for both my own curiosity to try some locals (so style doesn't necessarily matter as much) and to probably get some for the courses as well (wouldn't want, for instance, a 14% barleywine).

    Thanks!

I would go to Live Oak's brewery, its great and they often have a lot of unique stuff that I don't see in Houston, though always really wish I could get them more often. I would also check out Oddwood Ales. I haven't been to the brewery but the few times I have had their beers it has been great (just had Pool Dad Pils, loved it), and the brewery/taproom/kitchen looks great. That will be one of the first places I visit when I get back to Austin one of these days.

I preempted your response and went to Live Oak cos it’s been on my list for so long. Currently flying back home. Fantastic spot. Wish we had a brewery like that in NYC as a nice counterpoint to the haze/pastries.

Hi All - I’ll be visiting Austin / Round Rock a few times M-W in the coming months for work. Looks like I’ll be out of luck for jester king if they’re only open on the weekends.

Any recommendations for breweries, where to hear about tappings/releases, bottle shops and (non-beers, sorry) music venues/restaurants/generally cooks things to hit up while I’m in town would be much appreciated.

I read the earlier posts, so I already have a few breweries I’ll be trying to check out.

    Thanks in advance!
