In town for a couple days from Chicago... Any help on stouts on I can while here? If so, where? Any help would be appreciated. I like most big stouts, and barrel aged would be best ( obviously)...

    Thanks, Mike

Jester King Beer Geek Rodeo and 512 Whiskey Barrel Aged double pecan porter. Both on tap at Black Star Coop on Lamar. Good food too.

Thanks for the tip. Any good bottle shops for things I can bring home?

Specs on Brodie Lane is the #1 beer stop in Austin IMO. Best prices and great selection.

There's a pretty good load of Real Ale 15th at Central Market on N. Lamar...don't see it other places that often.

It's underrated, but I think the Independence Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout is pretty good...don't care for their other beers though.

I would definitely get a bottle of the Beer Geek Rodeo...but there have been reports of the bottles not surviving transportation because of the style of caps they use.

North Austin: Sunrise Market on Anderson
    East/South: Whip-In
West/South: South Lamar Wine and Spirits
Central: Flag Mart, Central Market on Lamar, Whole Foods downtown.

Also agree with Specs on Brodie Lane (south). Theres also a Central Market down there fairly close.

North also has Specs Arbor Walk--ask if they have anything in the back thats special, and Whole foods Gateway for decent bottle shops.

IF North by Northwest has their Blackjack on tap, its a good reason to check in there. I happen to like their oakanogan stout and a few others they have but they arent "standouts". I feel they have some decent beers, but most others think theyre pretty average. (im not in that camp) Food is pretty good but even i admit its pretty pricey.

Ill second Brodie lane and Whip in for other great bottle shops.

Im actually suprised to see some stouts still around with the weather change here. I thought i was the only stout drinker in Austin when it was hot lol
