:astonished: Grow some skin...you don't have any white whales, get over it and let this guy set up his tasting in peace. He wants more people with those types of beers so they can all try rare beers without having to land every single one of them himself. There's nothing wrong with that. Setting up something like this is included in advocacy.

Last time. You guys are all missing the point. Nobody cares that this is going to be a whales only tasting. It does not matter what the intended purpose was for the thread. Saying that you are sorry about sounding pretentious, then saying you only want 8 people to show up for an ultra rare tasting is not only pretentious, but elitist and snobby. It does not matter what the intention was, that is the way it came out. I am sure the best of intentions where are heart here, but things like this are better off with beer mails to the people who you think would be interested. Not opening up the carrot to everybody for a rare tasting that only 8 people are aloud to attend. What are people supose to do, out bid each other for the 8 spots to see who has the most bestest, super duper whale that angles pissed in?

Hope everyone has fun. It sounds to cool for me anyway.

No, not really...I think you're missing the point. BMs really:astonished: The whole point of this thread is that someone that he doesn't know that would be interested contacts him. He has already contacted the people he knows and thats why he already as 4-6 people attending. He wants it to be a bit bigger so he posted on a regional beer forum stating his expectations to see if anyone he doesn't know but is near him is interested. How else could he have gone about this? Please enlighten us. There aren't many people with the whales he's looking for so now, they won't be outbidding each other, probably everyone that has one whale of that caliber will end up there if they're interested. 6-8 people is always a nice size for a tasting because you get just enough beer that you feel like you actually got a nice pour instead of mouthwash sample sized pours.

Its not elitist, it just is what it is...a tasting with beers they'll likely never acquire again so they wanna savor them. If it was me, I wouldn't have even included the sorry if it sounds pretentious bit. I don't get why people feel the need to defend themselves in their original posts. There was another group doing the same thing that they were looking for someone with one of a short list of beers and they listed which beers they had already lined up for the tasting. It's more common than you might think. Beers of that caliber are used as entry tickets to tastings nowadays.

Damn people it's just beer. If Pimp wants to put together a tasting with whales then so be it. This is an open forum. It's much more logical to put a thread up then send out many PM's to different people. The more people that see it the better the tasting. Some people who may want to remain anonymous will see this thread and send Pimp a msg. Either way people will feel butt hurt about not getting the private message or get there beer glass dinged by reading this thread. So, all just chill and pour ya an appropriately temperature beer and enjoy.

    Prost!

How are you going to tell someone how to use a public forum? Don't you see the inherant douchery in your own sratements stands out so much stronger than the OP? Do you oppose the classified sections of newspapers because they don't apply to everybody? WHY CANT YOU SEE HOW CHILDISH IT IS TO GET OFFENDED BY A POST MADE ON BEER ADVOCATE. Its pansy ass shit like this that leads this country further down the road to political correctness HELL and away from good old fassioned COMMON SENSE. I pray daily for your fragile ego. /rant

You getting panties wet over someones polite invitation to a tasting and me calling you out for being a little control freak nancy internet morality poliecewoman is hardly the same thing.

If you can't see it by now, no preaching is going to save you brotha.

wow, not what i expected from pretty articulate posters here.

btw raffy, wtf is it with the personal attack on ATX?
so if its not your thing, WALK ON BY. as the OP suggested.

both posters are pretty high on my list of decent guys. Not that i matter, but you seem overly butt hurt by the posts here.

BTW i still want some goddam reviews from this whale tasting! ;0

You know, Craigslist is a great resource for finding an old sofa or a busted up 99' Honda Civic, but for finding beer geeks with Whales, I'm sure it's quite a shitty resource. I don't see what the big deal is anyway. A bottle share is essentially a big in person trade. Do people get equally upset at Whale for Whale trade posts? If the OP caused quite the stir, those FT's should too.... they seem to equally flaunt the same kind of in-you-face exclusivity. Sorry, but a post in a REGIONAL BEER FORUM seems legitimate to me. In fact, I think it's actually rather outlandish for someone to suggest that heading to a bar and randomly tapping people on the shoulder, asking if they have whales is a better course of action.

I have to ask though, if someone made the same post, but instead of Whales, they were just looking for people with things not available in TX...would that have offended the people that are offended by this post? Of course not. They're no longer alienated. But wait, what about local beer geeks that follow the SW forum, but don't trade or travel, therefore don't have anything that isn't available locally? Yep, now a whole new sect of people are alienated, and the OP is still a pretentious douchebag.

Also, the whole "he should share with people that don't have access" argument is a bit unwarranted. I'd be willing to bet that the 8 individuals offering to share their Whales would be doing so with 7 others who didn't have access to the bottle(s) they brought. That sure as hell sounds like people sharing with people that don't have access to me...but then again, I'm not a jealous person :sunglasses:

Believe it or not blather... my response was triggered by your "public" decline to attend this tasting(notice I commented directly following it ). Did I overreact a little... LOL, maybe. Too many beers, at 1AM in the morning while on the internet tends to rile up what you'd normally keep to yourself. That decline probably didn't even bother you... but apparently, that night, it did me. The rest just got blown way out of proportion. I had my say, and DID take the OP's advice to "scroll past"(until last night... that comment was just too funny, hah!).

As for ATX... we "private conversationed" abit last night and as it turns out... there might be a beer or two we could be sharing in the near future. Or maybe he just wants to meet up to kick my ass... we'll see.

Can't help myself, this has been an interesting thread indeed. I just wanted to give props to ATX as well. As I'm sure you'll find out Raffy, Josh is one of the most generous BA's I know. Anyone who invites random BA's to their house to share beer (and by share I mean, I bring 2 beers, he breaks out 20, literally) and lets them crash at their place is a BA badass in my book.

I forgot to add my two cents. I think it is fine to post this here, and my okay means it is okay.

If nothing else, it motivates me to go whale hunting so I can one day participate in some of these.
