I've been seeing some ingenious traders putting up a poll when they start their ISO/FT asking if it was a fair trade/unfair/etc. and I think its been very well received up til this point. This would help new traders see what offers are good or not, help existing traders see how far off they are in their offers, help gauge "value" so to speak.. amongst other things. Do you find this idea to have merit? In short: Automatic poll with 4 options [open to suggestion] Great Trade Fair Trade Bad Trade Far off Trade
The trading forum is open to anyone on this site, so I don't support the idea. If the poll included a list naming all those who voted, I would definitely support the idea.
I voted yes, but want to change my vote. If you want feedback, I think it's a great idea to choose to have a poll. But, I know there are a lot of people that have a "it doesn't hurt to ask" mindset (barf). So even though I don't agree with that, I don't think a poll should be imposed on them if they want to shoot for the stars.
On the one hand, this might help some people who aren't really sure what they should be asking for in exchange for what they have to offer. On the other hand, I don't think anyone's opinion on what the value of any particular beer(s) is should matter outside of the parties involved in the trade.
this idea is laughably bad... i'm sorry. maybe when we post an ISO:FT we should get auto-subscribed to an email list with tips on how to trade as well? and if you we get too many downvotes we have to spend 20 min in a chatroom with "veteran traders"? i'm all for moderation to keep the boards clean and, to some degree, the community better on track, but come on. "ISO: beer, FT: beer," it's not that complicated.
Ditto, I was too hasty with the yes button. I think the BA trading forum has become much a little off kilter with all of these "values" put on beers based upon opinions, numbers, popularity, etc. The only people who should determine whether the trade is "fair" or not are the people trading the beer. As for newbs, they'll figure it out by watching others and with help from fellow BA's whether through thread shitting or private messages.
I'm not sure I see how this is any better than just wide open threadshitting. And I'd prefer the threadshitting, because at least that can be educational. A simple 'not fair' doesn't explain why it's not fair. Hell, it doesn't even explain which side is unfair.
In the context of your poll, wouldn't "great trade" and "far off trade" be the same thing then? I now see the comment "great trader" in a totally different light. Bad idea. Jeff
Oh, and how do you qualify between a bad trade and a far--off trade? What criteria separates the two?
A bad trade is one that devalues MY beer. A far-off trade is one in which someone else could get a beer I covet.
I support this only because it would be an hysterical shit show and I need more of this type of entertainment in my life. But in reality, sorry Richard, I don't think this is a good idea at all. If people want to do it on their own threads, have at it, although I'm the best judge of whether or not a trade is fair, so I'll just ignore it.
