    Poll #15 determined that the total percentage of Crystal Malts in the grain bill will be 10%.

    This poll will determine the split between American Crystal 60 and Golden Naked Oats. After that, we'll determine the percentage of Brown Malt (~60L). That will leave the rest of the bill for the Golden Promise.

    The percentage being selected here is by weight, not by gravity "points" contribution.

    If you are not a believer in specifying fermentables by percentages (due to non-proportional flavor/color extraction for different grains at various mash efficiencies), the assumed mash efficiency for the grains in the final recipe will be 70%, if that helps.

    When this poll is done, I will look at the data a few different ways to determine the central tendency. It may or may not be as simple as a plurality would indicate. There may or may not be a runoff. It all depends on the data.

    I recommend you think about this in terms of not only your personal preferences, but also in the context of the ABV and Final Gravity (and thus the attenuation) already selected, the other grains (%s determined and TBD) already selected, and the yeast strain already selected. I also recommend thinking ahead about how much room you'll need in the grist for the other grains. In other words, build your ideal proportions for the remaining grains in your head before voting in this poll.

    Target ABV: 5.6%
    OG: 1.056
    FG: 1.013
    Yeast Strain: Wyeast 1469

    Grains:
    - Golden Promise (% TBD)
    - Pale Chocolate Malt (English, ~220L) (5.5%)
    - American Crystal 60 (% TBD, some portion of 10%)
    - Golden Naked Oats (% TBD, remaining portion of 10%)
    - Brown Malt (~60L) % TBD)

    Need to go heavy on the dark color crystal if we want a brown ale. Dark color, tastes good. So I went 8% C60 / 2% GNO.

    I think it comes down to what malt you prefer for deriving color: C60 = sweet and caramelly, Brown = dry roast. Because GNOs will add sweetness too and will go up if C60 goes down, maybe you can eliminate sweetness from the equation. I vote 5% each GNO and C60, and then would come in at 5% on brown for an SRM around 21.

    If my calcs are correct, we need 7-8% of each dark malt for a brown beer of 20 SRM. That's another reason I voted 8% here. Not sure whose calculations to believe. But I figure we're already short at 17 SRM if we stick with 5.5% pale chocolate... and assuming 8% brown.
