    The first ABV poll...
    http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/averagely-perfect-american-stout-poll-1-abv.131209/
...resulted in a tie of sorts. See that thread for why. So here is the runoff poll.

(For those who don't know what I'm talking about, see this thread about the first beer we did (and the bazillion ensuing polls and the final recipes)...
    http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/the-averagely-perfect-american-ipa-project.59552/)

Plurality (and majority) takes all for this two horse runoff.

Issues with methodology? Take 'em to beermail please.

This poll will be open for 36 hours.

    I like your style!

6.2 should yield a deceptively chuggable beer. I like it.

6.5 to tie the game early at 2 votes a piece.

6.5%. I've flip flopped to a higher gravity since deciding to split the final batch and ghost pepper half of it up as per pweis909's suggestion in the last poll.

That is unless we all vote to add some chili's..........

I voted 6.2% because, undoubtedly, when I make it, it will end up above 6.5% anyway. Just the way my process rolls these days. :sunglasses:

Strange how evenly split we are (14 ea. at the moment). I'm starting to wonder if everyone has considered when we're going to be drinking this beer? Maybe the 5%ers were hoping for something in late winter early spring, and you 6.5%ers are hoping for something next fall.

Based on the result of the first poll, I expected nothing less than a squeeker in the runoff. We'll see if that happens in the end.

Out of curiosity, aside from the obvious .3%, what's the difference between 6.2% and 6.5%? A couple ounces of grain? A slightly higher efficiency? Hell for some of us newer brewers that's probably less than the margin of error.

From a practical standpoint, if I've already had a couple and I'm contemplating one more, I'd never say to myself "That 6.5% stout is just too strong for this point in the evening. Better go with the 6.2% stout instead..."

I understand the reason for a runoff in this case - statistical validity and majority rule - but in practice, I don't really anticipate much of a difference.

All that being said, I voted 6.5% and if it comes out at 6.2% as the winner, I'll refuse to brew this beer and take my brewing equipment and find another majority-sourced stout recipe.

My apologies if you were exaggerating for effect, but it would be more than a couple ounces of grain. Well, unless you can normally squeeze a 6.2% beer out of a 41 ounce grain bill.

No need to apologize. Honest to goodness ignorance here. These are aspects of brewing I have a hard time getting my brain around (especially before coffee has kicked in).

I wouldn't care either way. I voted 6.5% because that's what I voted last time.
