-> Poll #5 <- determined that the Base Malt will be Maris Otter.

This poll (and possibly the next) will determine what type(s) of Crystal Malt(s) are in.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE VOTING! You need to understand it for the results to be valid. There are Two Concurrent Mini-Polls. Because there are only 10 slots available per poll, this poll is split into two concurrent mini-polls. You should vote in both polls, and you can select more than one variety per poll. At the end, I will combine the results to determine the top varieties for further (potential) whittling. Vote in both of the concurrent polls...if you don't want any of the malts in a particular mini-poll, you should vote 'None of These" in that mini-poll. If you want a C-Malt not listed, write it in.

You can select more than one choice. The #1 overall choice (from both segments combined) will automatically be in. Beyond that, any other choices that get votes from at least 30% of respondents will advance to another poll to determine exact combinations that are in. Want something that's not listed? Write it in. If your first choice is losing badly, consider jumping to a similar choice that has more votes.

I recommend you think about this in terms of not only your personal preferences, but also in the context of the ABV and Final Gravity (and thus the attenuation) already selected, base malt already selected, and fermentables still possible, as well as any possible yeast strain selection that might be kicking around in your head.

This poll will be open for 48 hours.

If you have issues with or suggestions for methodologies used in this project, please send them via beermail. Let's keep the threads themselves on topic to the question at hand and not about how you would have asked the question differently.

The Averagely Perfect ESB Recipe so far...

    Target ABV: 5.4%
    OG: 1.053
    FG: 1.012 (77.4% Apparent Attenuation)
    Grain Bill:
    ---Maris Otter
---Carapils and/or Other Crystal Malt(s) IN (exact choice(s) TBD, this poll)
---Sugar, Sugar Products, and/or Honey possibly in (TBD, future poll)
---Munich and/or Vienna possibly in (TBD, future poll)

I prefer English crystals to American as a general rule, even in non-English beers, so I voted for the medium-ish English crytsals...in the "6B" poll.

My opinion remains the same as it was for the base malt, use English malt for an English beer.

My only reason for picking one here is availability at my LHBS. They try to carry the local Malt house's stuff over much else so ordering a pound online is the only way I can get most english crystal malts.
