Based on the feedback in -> this <- thread, it appears there's enough interest in a Homebrew Contest with an Averagely Perfect project ingredient twist, so let's do it. Here's the original idea:

"3) The third variation would be the hardest to pull off, but potentially a lot of fun. Instead of crowd-sourcing a recipe, we would have a homebrew competition. Brew a beer using only ingredients chosen from the ingredients already used in any/all of the Averagely Perfect recipes. (Possibly add one more ingredient, rule TBD.) Beer style must be declared and can't be one of the 5 styles from the Averagely Perfect projects. Entries would be sent to me. I would find three local/semi-local judges. (I would not judge, because I would know the identities of the brewers.) Judging would be loosely by BJCP guidelines, but more like a Best of Show Round. The beer the judges love the most would win. The winner would be announced on the forum and the recipe would be posted on the Homebrew Recipes sub-forum. (Names of non-winners would not be announced, though participants could of course choose to talk about their own entries if the want.)"

So there are a couple things to decide.

    1) Limit the ingredient pool strictly to ingredients chosen (by the brewer) from the ingredients already used in any/all of the Averagely Perfect recipes - or - Allow one new ingredient?

    2) Due date for entries.

Plurality will win on both questions. Make sure to answer both questions in the single poll above. After this poll, I will post the official rules. The poll will be open for 72 hours.

    Misc Notes:
    - For who would rather just do a new Averagely Perfect project, I'll plan to start another one of those right after this side trip. It could be a normal Averagely Perfect project, or it could be one with limited ingredients.
    - If allowing one new ingredient wins out, keep in mind that ingredient could be yeast (for those concerned about stylistic limits).
    - For those who would rather just have a regular Homebrew contest with no restrictions at all... I'm not against that. Perhaps I or someone else will organize that in the future. In the meantime, there are plenty of open competitions to enter.
    - For those who will miss the voting aspect...here's one poll at least!

When I post the official rules, there will be a cattle call for judges in the area, but thought I'm mention it here too as a heads up. I'll have no problems finding 3 willing and available craft beer lovers/homebrewers in my area, but I'd prefer to have BJCP judges if I can get them, since the "BoS round" style judging will loosely use BJCP style guidelines. But bottom line: I'll go with what I can get.

I plan to brew a beer and let it age in an oak barrel for 1000 years and send it to you 30 September 3017

The only reason I didn't vote for this one.... Just kidding, figured he meant 2017.

Ok. Looks like one additional ingredient will be allowed, and entries will be due on November 30th. That should be enough for folks to start planning, and I'll post the official rules tonight.
