I paid 15$ one time to try it. Good beer but I would not purchase it again at that price.

I picked up two bottles last month at $13 apiece; still haven't gotten around to trying it.

The only single 12 oz bottle I've paid over $10 for has been Brew Dog Tokio. Didn't pay close to that for KBS.

Seen them in the Boston market at $15 / bottle - bought one but haven't tried it - they're still there and not moving that quickly. Was thinking of grabbing another but at that price point, can't justify it regardless of how good it is.

    I'm with you, Hopley.

Just popped by my local store and found them for $15 apiece. Plenty around.

This years was in very short supply in Texas. Like less than KBS. Got 2 bottles left from last year though.

For a beer aged 6 months it's waaaaay overpriced. I can get BCBS for damn near 1/3 the price and it's aged 12 months. It's got rarity going for it and that's it.

I know aging isn't everything but it doesn't do anything special to justify the price.

I wouldn't equate the two, since Uncle Jacobs and BCBS are pretty different animals, but if you're just looking at price, UJ is comparable to or cheaper than Black Tuesday, BASS, and BA IBB.

I agree with this - I do see them as comparable in quality but that's based on memory, enjoying both of them separately. I think next time I open a bottle I'm going to do them side by side.

The only hard part is the price. When Uncle Jacob is 3x the cost ...

Hopefully the expansion of Avery's barrel program - growing 10 fold! - will lead to both great availability and lower prices.

Can you elaborate on "pretty different animals"? Sure, we can always find differences - aging duration, barrels used - but if you look at the basic info it's hard to find beers that are more apparently comparable.

    - Both bourbon barrel aged imperial stouts
    - Both high abv - 14.8 for UJ vs 14.2 for BCBS
    - Similar ratings - 4.41 for UJ vs 4.57 for BCBS

What are the major differences? It's not as if we're looking at an RIS or Oatmeal Stout in once case or a rum barrel aged versus a bourbon barrel aged beer.

Well, 2012 Uncle Jacob's is 17.42% alc and it tasted as good if not better than BCBS. I kept the bottle and it's right in front of me.

Try both, and you'll know what I mean – there's a marked difference in aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel. In my experience UJ is thicker and has a sweeter aroma and a fruitier (black cherry / raisin) taste profile than BCBS. I would describe UJ as akin to Dark Lord, except with a much better balance between the bourbon/fruit flavors and the sugary sweetness.

I don't think one is necessarily better than the other – they're just noticeably different.

Really good stuff one of my favorites. Not sure what the distribution is, but pretty limited 700 cases (x 24 bottles per case). That said your best bet is to trade for it. You could easily get it for some of the prairie stouts.

It was $25 at Original Gravity in San Jose. No bottles to go, had to drink it there.

I totally agree, I'm getting really sick of all the people saying you can't compare this or that. The damn beer is 3x as expensive as BCBS and aged 1/2 as long. Why would it cost what is does, who knows.

You missed the Texas release. Depending on which city you live in depends on the release. Example, Spec's Midtown in Houston only got 2 cases and released a 1 bottle limit approx. wks ago.
