OK, I see what you're getting at. Still close in that they're both high abv bourbon barrel aged stouts but quite different within that category. The initial statement - different animals - makes me think it's a bigger difference. But it's more like one's a jackal and one's a hyena. ;-)

I'd agree that UJ is in the Dark Lord vein (except that it actually tastes good).

I assume you feel the same way about Black Tuesday, BA Speedway Stout, and BA Imperial Biscotti Break then, since they all cost as much or more than UJ?

Last time it showed up here for sure was Jan 2013...

I don't remember if I've seen it again since. Not cheap, but great drinking (<-- review).

Haven't had BA imperial biscotti break but I can say that Uncle Jacob's is a bourbon bomb. Lot of variability in bottles. It's a lot like Black Tuesday and heavier of a beast than Bourbon County. Real difficult to get bourbon county in san diego so this is a suitable alternative.. Come on though no one complains about paying $15+ for any of Lost Abbey bourbon barrel singles.. Same damn thing.

Batch 1 a few weeks ago was drinking like the exact middle ground between BCBS and Black Tuesday.

Funny because I got two bottles in Dallas last year but no KBS this year. I was also in the complete right place right time when I got both. I took a random vacation day and stumbled into both bottles on accident. I'd totally trade my last UJ for KBS since I completely missed out on KBS this year.

It hit the South Bay last week for $15 a bottle. I assume long gone now.

I wound up finding a bottle in Denver in Jan, but have never seen it in NJ.

Because the beer geeks drive the market. We (myself included) pay over $25 for Dark Lord when you factor in the ticket cost and there's definitely better stouts out there for less. The old cliche ri gs true again and again: quit bitching and vote with your dollars. No one is forcing anyone to buy Uncle Jacobs, Black Tuesday, or a host of any other "whales/rarities".

I picked up a two sixers of UJS at the release in early Feb, and can still find the occasional bottle in stores here in Boulder.

The problem as I see it is that Avery is at absolute brewing/barreling capacity until the new brewery opens next year. I know for a fact they are planning a major barrel program expansion later this year, including a bottled version of Tweak. I expect at that point more bottles will reach more states.

As for price, every barrel aged bottle of beer that has come out of Avery since I can recall has been priced at a buck an ounce. ($12 for 12oz). Whether it is worth the price is up to the drinker. It always has been worth it to me.

I don't work for Avery. Just a huge fan since the 90's.

Still have it on some shelves in Philly, but at $18.75 a bottle. Screw that! Had it once, very good but not worth over a $1 an ounce

Wow, that's quite a mark-up. Who's selling at that price, the Foodery?

Never seen it in NY, and I'm fairly resourceful. I had to get my one bottle in Philly this year. I think it was like $16, but it was the last one and I had never seen it before.
