This beer sounds amazing and I'm probably going to the release, but the $10/bottle price has me second guessing. Why so spendy, especially considering beers like KBS which have a $5 price tag (or slightly less, at the brewery)? Thoughts?

Perhaps a closer comparison (17%/17%+) might be with Dogfish Head World Wide Stout. What does a 12 oz bottle of that retail for nowadays? Finding $5 and $6 singles at retail is much more common than it was only a few years ago, and it seems to follow that brewery-only releases would keep pace.

$10 is what Rumpkin retailed for in my shops. And the ABV of what...16% and the rum barrel aging is the most likely factor. Plus in the end, most breweries are gonna do what they want to anyways, regardless of what "the other guys" are doing.

On a side note: I've been told this is hitting retail. Anyone able to 100% confirm this?

I think Avery Uncle Jacob's Stout is half the bottle amount of KBS, and I'm pretty sure there's a heckuvalot more malt in it to reach 17.4%... but it's all speculation. It may be because Avery wants to allow more people to try it. At $5/bottle it would be sold out in minutes.

Great points about the extra malts / crazy high ABV (like WWS). I'd love to get a taste of it before buying multiple bottles, but they usually don't have the new release on tap at these gigs.

Rumpkin hit distribution in some states with the same amount produced, but the demand for Barrel Aged stouts is higher. I sure hope I get a chance to try this. It sounds great. I wonder if this will compare to Black Tuesday since the alcohol is close. I guess we will see.

i've paid almost that much for mephistopheles's stout and not been disappointed.

$10 for uncle jacob's stout? heavy risk... but the priiiiize.

I just happened to be in CO when they released Rumkin and bought 12 to bring home. Was worth all the money, so many friends wanted some i only have 2 bottles left. If anyone in CO is picking this up and wants to trade with a WA BA, BM me and hopefully we can work something out

I'll definitely be attending the release. Avery has a pretty good track record with these releases, and at 17.5% this will be a fun one to age.

Hit the release and it was worth the money, so tasty. They had Bourbon Barrel Mephaddict (Tweak) and Rumpkin on tap, which ruled.

They've got a great track record for producing big stouts. The Czar and Mephistopheles are certainly excellant.
