What a disappointment this turned out to be.

Yeah, not impressed. Check out the reviews - looks like I am not the only one that feels this way.

Expectations are going to play a huge role in your enjoyment of this beer. Its not Vanilla Rye, or even close. The barrel presence is pretty light, the base stout definitely has that Avery taste, and the vanilla is certainly there but not as marshmallowy as some of the more famous big BA vanilla stouts. But, for being a beer that should be fairly easy to get a drink of, its a great drinking beer. Let it warm up, don't expect to win your bottle share with it, and you will probably enjoy it.

I bought 2 bottles and drank one last night. I didn't care for it either. Being a huge vanilla stout fan, I was very excited for this! Tastes nothing like vanilla to me, was a very weird sweetness instead of vanilla and didn't get any bourbon flavor at all... From many of the reviews, it almost sounds like there may be a lot of bottle variations. I'm hoping that is the case and the next bottle will be better. Fingers crossed!

Went home for the holidays, was going to just grab a bottle if I saw it, but got to eat lunch at Avery and had a small pour on-tap. I did not enjoy it, but I can see how others might, it was far too sweet for my personal tastes, but if you are a fan of monstrous vanilla, then this would be right up your alley. I think it is a nice avenue for Avery to explore, as much as I love Tweak, Uncle Jacob's, and Mephistopheles, it is nice to have something not quite as strong, though the 22oz format would certainly need to be split a few ways IMO.

I haven't seen it offered up here in WA yet, nor did I see it outside the brewery while in CO (granted I didn't look all that much). It should start trickling into distro shortly, I think it was $12.99/ea, same as the Raspberry Sour. Cheers!

Pleasantly surprised to see this just sitting on shelves in Ann Arbor today. Given the OP in this thread, I didn't even think it was coming to Michigan.

Price was $18, which is fine for a one-time purchase, but it better be pretty fucking good for it to be a repeat purchase (since this is apparently going to be an ongoing release moving forward...)

Don't give up hope. That is not the updated list. MI is not on it either but found it in a store over the weekend. Somewhere there's a newer distro list.

Avery has distribution in Texas, give it some time my friend. Maryland wasn't in the original list but we have it here. Might have to search for it or just ask your shop of choice if it will be coming.

Buddy of mine brought me back a bottle from the Avery taproom. It was awful. Had high hopes (maybe part of the problem?), but it wasn't even a decent stout. Won't be buying again.

I picked up a bottle of this last week for what I think has to have been a mis-price of $6, probably cracking it in a little while.

I got this for about $15. The chocolate wasn't very dark and deep, not much coffee, but definitely a nice vanilla presence, along with the bourbon barrel, and a dark chocolate milk like sweetness. The only other vanilla bean stout I've had was Mean Old Tom (not barrel aged). I enjoyed this.
