I'm guessing they looked up "Black Eye" and didn't pay attention to the brewery. There are several other beers with that name, one from a brewery in DC where 2 of the reviewers are from.

I'm going to assume this will be a 4.5 anyhow, so they're probably right with their numbers

I know one of the local beer buyers from a well known store that already had a bottle weeks ago. Proof of picture and all. So people have had it legitimately already.

I'm one of those people, and was asked not to rate or re-trade or any of that. I'm guessing they know someone at Avery but chose to ignore those requests for whatever reason.

I wouldn't worry about this hitting the shelves in Denver. The turnout was shocking low.

...And the beer itself was terrible

First trip to Avery and I have to say, easily one of the smoothest bottle releases I have ever seen. Great beers on tap, fast moving line, all in all it was great!

They had PumpKYn and Rumpkin available as single bottles for sale too.

That they did! Hazel's also has cases of both in the back cooler.

Avery knows how to do releases and parties better than anyone. This beer is phenomenal.

Was able to get the gf on board for driving up today after we landed. Scored some rumpkin pumkyn and black eye. As far as Avery, it was super chill. Lots of people, but everything went smoothly. It was just frickin cold haha

Apparently it was a perfect storm for a low turn-out...at least initially. The line was all of 6 people until noon.

I got there around 4:30 and it was pretty busy. I'd be curious how many cases were sold yesterday. Very tasty beer with some heat. 3 to 6 months and it'll be perfect IMO.

I don't anticipate much going into distro given the production level and turn out at the release. It will definitely be a few days though before retailers get in stock what is left.

    ???
424 cases is a ton compared to their other releases. I wouldn't expect much to get out of the state distro wise, but I WOULD anticipate there to be plenty around Colorado. 1-bottle limits like the rest of the releases probably, but plenty of stores will get it.

424 cases is not a ton at all compared to their other stouts and even some of their sours. Rumpkin and Pump(KY)n were both enormous comparatively and Rufus Corvus and 5 Monks were both roughly double the size. 1-bottle limits are pretty much guaranteed and I'd guess distro will be very limited.

It's a little unfair to compare the BA series to the annual releases. Uncle Jacobs, Pumpkyn, Rumpkin, Tweak are all annual releases and thus 800+ cases (probably closer to 2,000) each batch. The BA series are one-offs and fall anywhere between 70-700 cases. 424 is pretty average, if not even considered on the high side!

Rufus Corvus & 5 monks were 2-bottle limits some places and had it not been for GABF would probably still be on the shelves.

Why this would be any different than any of the other BA-series releases? More limited than Rufus & 5 monks, absolutely, but those have been 'high' case counts. Opuntia was 263 cases, Obscuro & Nimbosus 284 cases, Thensaurum 276 cases, Ross's's' Melange 105 cases, even the great Momi Hiwa was only 362 cases... all of which were around town.

Just wait until 175 case Antonius hits on 10/26. Those will barely make it out of Boulder.

Makes you long for the good ole days of 55 case Volunt releases. Or not.

Thanks. I thought I remembered that 5 Monks, PumKYn, and Pumpkin each hit Denver shelves the Tuesday after their respective releases... I guess no such luck with this one. I'm sure they're all still around, but if anyone is looking for the 3 above, Logan Liquors had about a case of each this afternoon...

Ross's's' wasn't in stores. I skipped the release because it was only a week after the Momi release. They had some left after the release, but held it all back for special events. I was bummed that I wasn't able to get a bottle, but I eventually got to try it at Avery.
