Hell, I've seen Obscuro & Nimbosus at two different stores in the last week....at least 6 bottles at each store... surprising to me... but it's still out there... Rufus Corvus is too... even after GABF

Anyone else tried this out yet?

I had a bottle to myself Monday night and thought it was fantastic - huge malt/chocolate flavor, rich, full body/mouth feel, very nice vanilla/wood/spice/rum characters and dangerously drinkable for the ABV.

I'll be splitting another bottle tonight with two of the guys I went to the release with :grinning:

I opened one that day and thoroughly enjoyed. I was pretty surprised that the rum character wasn't more in your face, a la Rumpkin or even Momi Hiwa. The base stout is superb, very rich and full and ridiculously smooth for its strength. There's no question the rum is there and prominent, but I didn't find that it was taking over.

I got my 12, but will be sorely tempted to pick up a couple more if I come across them.

We opened a bottle at Avery on release day. IMO, it's up there with Momi as one of the best releases yet. The ABV is definitely masked well and absolutely delicious.

^^^ Completely agreed, I was very impressed and I'm now kicking myself for only buying 7 bottles.

Seems like every Avery release is the best yet  You think they're making any money? Because they're taking mine!!

Momi mixed with Uncle Jacob's I believe was the general consensus of the group. No perceived coconut flavor obviously, we're just talking base beers here.

Even though that dude is 3 months old due to Avery's QC double check it still could use some time to age. It's drinking absolutely phenomenal right now but time is only going to make that beer even better. And that's just scary.

They got a $30M brewery to pay for. You should ask for a brick with your name on it in the tap room, as a donor.

$1 per oz.... yea, they're making money!

If you think about it, large brewery-only releases are the way to go, Avery & Crooked Stave are smart, if you can remove the middle-man, profit jumps from 8% to 66%

Touch of bias because I have been craving a rum barrel stout anway, but I think this beer is magical.

Add me to the list of folks who like it. It's great. While there's no coconut in it - the barrel does give it a little bit of that note, making it the closest thing to Momi I can recall. It has a little heat (a beer that potent almost has to have some) but it's not too strong. In a year this might be something really special, though.

BTW, for anyone that's looking, it finally rolled out to stores yesterday (and probably more today)... looks like stores mostly south of Colfax and south Denver got some yesterday. 2-bottle limit at Argo

Bottles had hit in the South yesterday as well just in case anyone is looking. Will also back up the older Avery releases still being around. Know of at least two stores with 5 Monks and Rufus still on shelves.

There has to be a better name than this. I ate too much extra hot chicken vindaloo once and shot a BM on accident - I refuse to do it again, even on command.

Oh, that was no accident. It's only an accident if you're NOT expecting it to... come out... I don't know how to make that sound less disgusting.

Anyway, I will be checking stores for this in the SE Denver area cause it sounds very nice. Also, still can't see this thread without saying out loud "Avery's Black Guy". Probably just me.
