I'm disappointed to see "drink lots of water" repeated over and over again. It will help up to a point but drinking lots of water carries its own risks.Nobody has to my knowledge died from dehydration running marathons but plenty have died through drinking too much water trying to avoid it.It's called hyponatremia and the symptoms include
    •Nausea and vomiting
    •Headache
    •Confusion
    •Lethargy
•Fatigue........all of which should be familiar to those suffering hangovers.

This might all just be in my head. But there are supplements called Drinkwel, and they work fantastic. Whenever I know im going to have a big night of drinking i take them as instructed and always wake up feeling perfect.

    1) Drink in moderation (i.e. one or two 12oz bottles/drafts at most - always prevents hangovers for me).

Also, while not something that will mitigate a hangover if you are drinking, I usually follow this rule too:

    2) Don't drink anything the night before I have something important to do - if it's that important, a drink can wait until the next day; perhaps have a celebratory drink

Hey, I was reading responses to this and no one mentioned my prevention technique for hangovers which is bananas, or a banana the night you are drinking before bed and yes, some water.

How old are you? Or maybe the better question is, how long have you been drinking? If you're drinking on an empty stomach and don't know why you're experiencing hangover symptoms, there may be a bigger issue here.

Gatorade and bread with honey before bed. Helps me. Gotta keep this glycogen stores up. Plus water while drinking always helps.

Just met a young lady this passed Sunday at Sams. Had beer and wine, she was my checker. Said thst she was allergic to alcohol. Even when it was cooked in food. Could be some other substance because alcohol usually cooks out. Any way, if none of these remedies work, you may try cooking with it and see if it affects you the same. Be careful with it. Don't won't to lose a new BA too soon. Cheers

The headache is caused by dehydration. No cure for that except fluids, preferably water.
The nausea is caused by alcohol messing up your stomach lining. That's a technical term. No cure.
The weakness and shaky feeling? Alcohol strips your body of B vitamins. I have a liquid B vitamin supplement. You put a few drops under your tongue. Works like a charm, and since it get absorbed almost instantly, there's no chance you'll throw it back up. B vitamins and water are the key.

I don't think you can really avoid hangovers if your prone to getting them...just my opinion.

Anyhow, the last few weekends I have been drinking coconut water before bed and when I get up. It seems to have subdued the effects, and the taste is pretty good. I find the coconut water with pulp works best.

If you are in the state of Colorado or Washington there are things sold there legally that work wonders. At least it did some 35 years ago for me. I tuned that page of my life in the early 1980s and haven't looked back.

Are you drinking Bud light? For some reason, if I drink bud light, I get more hungover than I would with Miller/Coors.

Just water is good enough... I drink a lot of water when I drink, so I never have much issue.

Not quite a technical term and there is a cure Cysteine (NAC). This is not my work, someone much smarter than myself suggested this and it definitely works.

Acetaldehyde is the first by-product of alcohol breaking down. It's also a shit ton more toxic than alcohol is which causes you to feel like crap. When your liver is breaking down alcohol faster than it can break down acetaldehyde (by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase) the acetaldehyde will build up and you get a hangover. Cysteine binds to the excess acetaldehyde and neutralizes it.

Best to take 2 NAC shortly before you start drinking and one more after several hours/before bed. I also recommend Milk thistle though the science backing that isn't as strong.

Thankfully I'm 39 and can drink all day no problem and wake up and hit the gym at 7am...you note that your >200 and 6'3 and think your sessions should be quit reasonable....dude that's underweight...so your problem probably lies right there thinking you can drink more than you should to avoid the hangovers.

The "this is a technical term" was a joke. But yeah, I have heard good things about NAC.

That's no lie. As Hank Jr said "hangovers hurt more than they used to". The 2 day hangover from tying one on is almost enough of a deterrent to stop altogether. Even if I drink in moderation I still have some sort of negative effect no matter what I do, it used to not be that way.
