some folks believe that drinking all wheat beers wont leave you with a hangover. I've had a few wheat beers in a session but never enough to put the theory to the test.

I usually won't eat carbs if I know I'll be drinking that evening. plenty of water, a high protein diet and I'm usually good.
I think its all that sugar ie: bread, rice, pasta, sweets, booze/beer, all turn into sugar in your system and usually make for a nasty hang over. so drinking 6-12 beers, a slice of cake and a pasta dinner would ensure that I will have a nasty hangover and it wont matter how much water I drink.

Certainly that's one of the main reasons.
There is a lot of claptrap published about dehydration , remember the mantra that you need X glasses a day ,regardless of the millions who reached old age without knowing this ? It was the result of knowing how much water was needed to digest food but forgetting that most of this water is already in the food and only a tint proportion actually needs digesting. But I still see over and over again the advice to drink lots of water. Your body will take what it needs and you pee the rest away.Whether it's water, vitamins or trace elements once you have enough then taking more is a waste of time.
As somebody who drinks plenty of session beer , let me tell you that a hangover is definitely possible if you drink enough of it. It's not just about dehydration and vitamin loss.

Neither do I, which I would make sure to let my friends know the morning after parties when they had to wake up with their young kids feeling like death. :grinning:

Drink in the evening so you can go to bed afterwards. Plus drink a large glass of water before you crash. You may be up going to the bathroom more often, but this seems to help me. If I don't drink any water after drinking a few beers, I'll wake up several hours later with a headache. Just my $0.02!

    besides... DONT DRINK... LOL

best thing for not getting a hangover that is....

    food and water...

if Im gonna drink more than the normal 1-2 beers in a setting I will always have a glass of water inbetween each beer, and will consume 32-64 ozs of water before I go to bed (yes you will have to get up int he middle of the night) but it tends to keep away any ill feelings the next morning.. then If i still feel a little loopy I iwll go for a 3 mile run.. no more hangover and I just burnt the calories.. Perfect... As Guiness say "Brillllliant"

    TL;DR

After a heavy night of drinking, I will take down a 32oz bottle of Pedialyte before heading to bed. Wake up in the morning feeling a little tired but no hangover to speak of. Pedialyte will replace all the lost electrolytes helping to hydrate you.

"For every alcoholic drink you have, your body can expel up to four times as much liquid. The diuretic effect of alcohol and the dehydration it causes contribute to the discomfort of a hangover, explains Jim Woodford, PhD, a forensic chemist specializing in drugs and alcohol.

That's why Anthony Giglio, a wine expert in New York City and author of Mr. Boston Official Bartender's Guide, matches each alcoholic drink with a glass of water. "I drink at least 8 ounces [of water] with no ice to make sure I pace myself and don't overindulge," he tells WebMD.

Both Brick and Woodford agree that staying hydrated can reduce the negative effects of alcohol. "Alcohol dehydrates," Woodford says. "When you wake up with a headache and a generally icky feeling, dehydration is the cause." So replacing lost fluids with water combats dehydration and keeps you from drinking more alcohol in the meantime.

Granted, this advice isn't Nobel Prize research, but keeping a pitcher of water at your table or a glass of water next to your wine may make you feel like a genius in the morning."

Not to put too fine a point on this issue, but there is an envelope of functionality to this method of mitigating the consequences of imbibing alcohol with water intake.
Eventuality in the terminal stages of alcohol poisoning, and with the excess total fluid intake, there will be a failure in reciprocity. The subject will overdose on alcohol and become morbid.

You can drink outside of the box, just don't drink outside of the envelope, you won't come back.

Though one of the symptoms of alcohol overindulgence is dehydration , taking in water can only offer a limited mitigation. The hangover stems from the brain, extra water in the digestive system and stomach is somewhat irrelevant. The body will utilise what it needs in its own time so drinking lots of water will offer no greater relief.
But the article makes no sense. If I drink a modest 5 pints is it suggesting that somehow my body expels 20 pints of water?

I'm not the 800 pound PhD in the room... People have been known to drowned in their own bathwater. Alcohol diminishes the body's organs ability to function, thus compromising the the picture. With a modest knowledge of histology, there will also be an elevated measure of cellular retention, adding to the already compromised subject's detriment, that has to be taken into account.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate - one glass of water for every two beers. Then smaller amounts of bland food, like bread and spinach dip, or soft pretzels.

Cranberry juice is a diuretic - typically NOT what you want to drink (those hangover pills are anti-diuretics). You are better off having sports drinks or straight water and LOTS of it. A single ibuprofen along with a couple of glasses of water help me.

The "hair of the dog" theory really is the best way to bounce back. It's not the tomato juice in a Bloody Mary that makes you feel better.

If I know I'm going to be potentially drinking to excess, that same day I try to:

    1) Drink lots of water and eat three full meals. No skipping. Couple of handfuls of almonds or pistachios in between.
    2) Eat something during the evening. Anything.
    3) Drink tons of water, Pedialyte, or Gatorade--even if I am plowed--when I get home. I mean a LOT. More than I think I can handle. Advil or Tylenol PM alongside.

I've been amazed how this works. And how I feel in comparison when I neglect to employ above plan.
