Have to admit I'm already a fan...

Dark brown pour with reddish hues; beige head; decent cap and excellent clarity; no lace to speak of...

Prune, caramel malt, and sugary raisin nose.

Flavors of prune, roast malt, brown bread, sugary raisins and caramel malt.

    Medium mouthfeel and moderate carbonation.

I really like this malty dark beer, even more so these days because 85 yr old father in law likes it too, and he asks to go to the biergarten in Charleston to drink bocks with me when we visit. Cheers!

Yeah, I'm half way in, and I get sour cherries too. So tasty.

Time is running out on the Celebrator Tasting event!

The Celebrator goat has been permanently transferred to my German dimpled mug.

    Beer: Celebrator Zwei

Are you talking about Celebrator? because it is made in Germany by Ayinger.

Would be much nicer if there were two.

Btw, "Bock" does not exactly mean goat. It specifically describes a male goat, or a male ibex, or a male roe deer or a male chamois. But I think of a male ibex when I hear the word "Bock".

I missed the tasting, mostly due to time shift and stuff, but I did compensate with a little hike up the Andechs hill and enjoying beer in the Kloster Andechs :stuck_out_tongue:

The rumor/folklore is that the type of beer may have originated in Einbeck Germany where local dialect pronounced it Ein Bock (a/one goat, been many years since I took German) and the Doppel came out this time of year due to Ash Wed/ Lent connections.

I'd rather have been hiking and drinking beer in Germany, but you can probably still participate in the tasting as long as the thread is open. For you it's a win-win!

Sorry I missed this :slight_frown: but I'll be looking for these events now that I know they exist. Never heard of it before but it's a HELL of a good idea.

I screwed up, too, and waited till the last minute to get the beer. At that point, I was unable to get any. If the thread's still around I'll still keep an eye out.

I was all set for yesterday but spousal social obligations took priority (and Budweiser was the beer of choice - but with good Italian food and excellent company -- and so it goes)...but since the thread is still active...

April 03rd review and tasting notes:

Dopplebock has always been a go-to style for me and Celebrator one of the epitomes of the style -- back then and today...

Dark brown body capped with a thick, dull white head, rich and creamy. Deep, penetrating roasted grain aroma infused with caramel sweetness and vanilla-like notes. Rich caramel and toffee flavors, bordering on chocolate or cocoa. Heavy body; rich, dense, and creamy.

Man, this is just as phenomenal as it was decades ago. There are reasons that some beers represent the epitome of certain styles (classic styles, mostly), and Celebrator just keeps hitting the mark. It is intense, sweet, and sublimely heady. Getting back to roots is always pleasurable...
