Can one purchase a keg right from their brewery?

...with a little research on the Ayinger website, you can get their kegs here. You're welcome.

Also, write them an email. I'm sure someone there will know English and be able to answer you.

And Merchant Du Vin in the USA. But I imagine there's a distributor in Illinois who wouldn't be happy about you making an end run to the brewery or importer.

Are you planning a party in or around Munich sometime soon?

Although the advantage to picking it up at the brewery is that it will be fresh. No telling how old a keg is from your distributor.

Plus you have an excuse to go back to return the keg!

No, I'm planning one here in the States. Wife flies for one of the airlines. I get her spousal pass which I would surely love to use to bring one back home. Kegs that is. You'd be most assured of its freshness. A 5% tax would be employed upon return here but so what. I even have one of those fold-up dolly jobs.

I was at that very brewery a few years back but the guide was only in German. Kegs were everywhere outside. I think they were blue in color if I'm not mistaken??? Well anyway that beer is one fantastic tasting brew. Thanks as always for the replies. I'll pass it along if this works out.

Hmm... Illinois is a big state, but I'd travel for a chance to sample Ayinger that fresh! Just sayin'...

If you're referring to a regular 50-l keg at the brewery, you'd be paying a pretty hefty deposit (or Pfand). I wouldn't mention that you're transporting it to the States; they might not give it to you then. If you're talking about party kegs, should be fairly easy.

Probably looking at getting one of these?? 15L = ballpark 35 lbs. Should be doable as a checked in "bag".

If you want to get this 15l selfcooling-keg, you have to add 50€ deposit (like all of the other kegs) --> ±40€beer+50€deposit...
--> The easiest one is sending the brewery a message if they fill one-way kegs for export - and if you can buy one of those... it would me much cheaper if you don't think of returning the old one...

PS: the 5l-cans (not kegs!) don't have a deposit btw

Is that seriously to-scale with the Maß?

I remember the time I bought a brand new empty 10L party fass (with coupler connection etc) from a pub supplier to bring back to Australia, to use for homebrewing. The customs guy inspecting it in Frankfurt asked why I was taking it empty - and that I should have taken one full of bier!

Brewery does NOT allow for purchase at their site. Juts got a memo from them.
