Just pulled a sample from an APA I brewed 5 days ago. OG was 1.054 post boil. FG today 1.004. Tastes fine but somewhat bland. Used azacca at 60, 30, 10, and 0. Cascade at 10 and 0. Was thinking of dry hopping with one or both. Any opinions?
That's Azacca for you (IMO). I've never been too impressed with Azacca, I find it to be a little on the mild side. Go ahead and dry if you want. It won't hurt anything, all a matter of what you're going for.
Last fall I brewed an Azacca/Mosaic IPA. It turned out well but I am not particularly motivated to brew with Azacca again. I wish @WickedWally best of luck here. Cheers!
I did a single hop Azacca brew at one point and while good, really needed another hop along with it. It has a mild, orange note to it. Probably not too far off from Cascade, honestly. I would dry hop with something more characterful... Citra, Galaxy, Nelson, etc...
I hate to admit it but it has been a while since I have homebrewed with Cascade. Having stated that - I do enjoy drinking beers which feature Cascade. Maybe Cascade would be a good choice to dry hop this beer? Cheers!
I just finished a keg o af citra/Azacca NEIPA. I can echo the last few posts that Azacca was pretty mild. I used 8oz citra and 8oz Azacca... but I probably could have made the same beer with just 12oz citra I bought the 8oz bag of Azacca b/c it was on sale... but I probabaly won't use it again in the near future
I'm thinking of going with some more azacca (I bought the same 8oz bag), and some Amarillo. I think they may go well together. Anyone think otherwise?
I agree that azacca is a fairly lackluster hop but I think it adds some brightness that's hard to describe almost effervescent quality. Trying to get Dryhop character out of it wouldn't be easy apollo and cascade would be good for dh
Stopped off at my local supplier today and picked up some Pacifica and Citra. These with some more Azacca should do the trick. I'll let you all know how it comes out. Thanks.
