I edited my post slightly.
Well, if we are going to wait until it is safe enough to drive down 526 with typical Charleston drivers, you will never see the release.
We are not taking it lightly. However, I am not convinced there is a reason to close everything and head for the hills. Downtown is going to be focked. No doubt about it. Avoid it at all costs. The end of Longpoint Rd (opposite of the brewery location) will also be under water. Stick to the highways and major roads, and you should be ok.
Add some more manliness to this or independent woman, whichever you are Alex.
I live about 4 miles from WB and it is totally fine as of right now. There is the spot further up long point but the issue with that is there is water on either side of a two lane road, it can build up but doesn't matter if you stick to 526 and long point exit. That should be fine. Anyone coming from any direction can find their way to 526 which won't flood and then WB is a mile or so directly off 526. Stick to that and you are gonna be fine.
Never trust Mike.
I'm probably just gonna pick my bottles up from Skull Tavern when I grab the Pappy and DCB.
Well good, then if something goes badly you can fix it!
Do you really want Westbrook to drag this out any further? They probably didn't expect a hurricane to land when they were planning, but as numerous locals have said, it won't be flooding anywhere near the brewery, the rain may be bad but it won't prevent anyone from getting in/out, and there's plenty of other routes to take to avoid the worst parts. What else do you want, hand delivery?
Will I-26 be fine the whole way from the Carolinas?
Aside from shit roads, yes.
Aside from the bigfoot, yes.
And Charleston is in the Carolinas.
Funny you mention this, because for the first BA Cake release there was a 1 hour delay on I-26 south due to a sinkhole!
Also can people stop referring to the hurricane? It's still in the Bahamas and had little/nothing to do with the current weather. This is being caused by a stationary cold front off the coast combined with a big moisture system.
Any shares going on Saturday night?
I hoped I would luck into the release, but of course I'll be in Columbia, SC next weekend. Any way of getting this in a reasonable trade? Or has it gone beyond whalez status?
The City of Charleston will open all city owned parking garages downtown for residents to park during the rain for no charge. Take a ticket to get in. City requests that cars be removed by 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 4. List of city owned garages: http://www.charleston-sc.gov/index.aspx?NID=1025
I think BAMCs have always been pretty highly traded.
No bottle shares allowed!
Can possibly proxy for someone tomorrow. BM me to talk
13 hours and 8 minutes...
I hope y'all have fun tomorrow. And please be safe!
PLEASE be careful today if this event still happens!! The City of Charleston police have shut down all traffic in the peninsula (Downtown). The flooding is already bad and is only going to get worse with the next high tide around 1 pm. I hope to see you guys out there in a few hours!
I hope the NC folks who are down there early today were nice enough to bring y'all Chucktown boys some Skillet cans for breakfast!
I haven't made it there yet but I do have a few cans in the cooler
The brewery just posted that you can pick your beer up next Saturday if you can't make it!
From Westbrook's FB page:
"The BAMC release is still on for today! HOWEVER anyone who can't make it due to the weather will be able to pick up their beer next Saturday, Oct 10 from 12-6pm. The name of the person picking up must match the name on our list, which was finalized this morning."
This is awesome news for us out of towners, I was hoping to make a day of this and hang out. I hope you all are staying warm, dry and safe!
I got no dog in the fight, but SC is getting the brunt, as is coastal NC. It would make sense to extend the pickup day thruout the week, all this slop is gone by Tues and it will be sunny. Since dates are kinda arbitrary, I wouldn't want to put anyone in jeopardy if it could help it, the mountains here are flooded too. So while Mt Pleasant isn't underwater there are a lot of places that are and it's windy and the roads can be bad. What's the big deal to have everyone pick up ending on the 10th?
The road coming in to Westbrook has areas already under water. Low profile cars may have some issues if you're coming from the south. Borrow a truck or SUV or risk hydrolock
You South Carolinians are nuts! Stay safe down there today.
Some of us North Carolinians are nuts as well! This rain is crazy!
3 low places that will definitely be a problem very soon.
Sorry for the overly sarcastic reply. I haven't paid attention in past years how highly sought for these have been. Also, I was wondering if the hullabaloo surrounding this year would drive up the hype.
Still on our way. Anyone know if we could still get there from I-95 and I-26? Is that bridge to Mount Pleasant still open?
Also, Charleston Beer Exchange is CLOSED today. Any other bottle shop recommendations?
I think it's great they finally decided to offer an alternate date, but unfortunately I can't make that date due to a trip I've had planned for months... doubt I'm the only one. Hopefully they'll consider a few alternate dates or proxies in this case.
Try bottles in mt pleasant or total wine
House of Brews is a badass bottle shop and just down the road from the brewery. They also seem to break out some good shit when there are beer events in town.
