I have to say I'm not sure if I got a good deal with my trade but I got what I like and wanted. I traded a set of BA Mexican Cake for a King Henry, 2 BCBCS, and a Dark Lord.

That's all that matters. Trading good beer for beer you want. $4$ is very close as well.

Confusing me with mikesgroove? I'm touched . Actually traded with him twice. Once IP, all before he went downhill. I'm definitely not him.

This thread reminds me why I stopped formally trading beer.

Still glad you do so informally though

I am always happy to send good brew to my RVA friends. Gotta keep the Den supplied.

My real hatred is whining about what beer is worth what, and the general nerdery displayed with every new release. If the trade is fair in the eyes of both parties involved, it will get done. Plain and simple. I feel like the trading world really went to sh1t around 2008-2009. After that, the trade police started placing artificial values on all rare beer. Now, people care less about what tastes good, and more about what is the hardest thing to get. In my opinion, and I am not alone here, the Barrel Aged Mexicakes are some of the best imperial stouts out there. I am a huge fan of Bourbon County Rare, but I still think I rather drink the BAMC. They rank up there with Chocolate Rain, BA Abraxas, and every other wonderful stout I have tasted. I don't care about trade value, but poo pooing the beer based on rarity, previous Westbrook beers, or trade value is just ignorant. Try it and form your own opinion. Stop telling other people what they should or should not be trading it for.

The BAMC's can hold their own but that Chocolate Sea Salt Stout was freakin' amazing! A drinkable chocolate sea salt candy bar for sure!

Its a good deal if both parties are happy with the trade. I wasn't able to work out a deal for my extra set as a whole so I decided to split up the bottles and hopefully can make mulltiple deals to get the few specific bottles I am looking to land. One trade is agreed upon but shipping is pending. Still looking to work something out for the other two variants I have as extras.
On a related note. The haggling has been crazy. I dont remember anything like this when I was much more active on the trade forums a year or 2 ago. It used to be (at least in my experience) that someone would post an ISO/FT and the person would respond if they liked the proposal and the trade would be done. Now people are responding to the ISO/FTs I posted, acting as if they are interested in what I proposed, then trying to talk me down before eventually backing out. Its pretty frustrating actually.

That's what I hear about trading lately. If you see my last trade I was extremely specific and that was it. I got it done but if I didn't I wouldn't settle

I'm a big fan of responding to someone's ISO/FT and offering exactly what they are looking for, and then they ask you to add. Good times.

People from California: we feel like it is our right to set arbitrary values on rare beers we have never tasted.

See how fun snarky generalization can be. Back before the trading thing went down hill, when someone asked for too much in trade for a beer, the trade just didn't get done.

My apologies for bumping a thread/discussion that has fizzled but I just feel the need to voice my opinion since I just uploaded a review. Apple Brandy mexican cake landed in the top 10 best beers I have ever scored/reviewed.

I know there was mention in this thread about locals blowing up the reviews and making their "trade bait" more valueable but i just wanted to say that this is a legit beer. I have zero stake in making this claim as I dont have bottles to trade. And quite frankly maybe im even hurting my chances of drinking it again. But that beer is just amazing...

Westbrook, you have raised the bar and deserve every bit of hype and buzz that goes around based on this fantastic beer you created. Now please, make 10x more of it next year.
