Yeah, I emailed all of their email addresses and I received no response. That was about a week or so after release...smell and taste were both off, but the nose was just atrocious. Carbonation levels were through the roof, little doubt it was an infected bottle. Glad I got to try it, but bottle 2 I'm sitting on is waiting for FB to announce what they're gonna do (if anything)

Just heard from a friend who had one at a bottle share in CA last night that was infected. Trade at your own risk.

I got to try BA muy Bonita a week ago and the smell was definitely sulfury but the taste was right as long as you can get past the off putting smell. I have one bottle and am trying to decide what to do with it.

Seems like there's some bottle variation going on. The bottle I opened up a couple weeks ago was kind of like what lasering and markgugs said. It definitely had a strong sulfur presence in the aroma that mostly overpowered the underlying apples and cinnamon, I wouldn't say it was like garbage or sewage though and I've definitely had much worse infections. Taste wise the sulfur was still definitely there but not as overpowering and from what I remember the bottle might have gushed a little bit but the carbonation wasn't too bad. Either way I'd definitely open it sooner then later and beware with trading especially considering the $25 price tag.

i had one of my bottles at a tasting a couple weeks ago...going into it, i realized from reviews the smell would be bad. and it was, but taste was great...and as the beer warmed, the bad smell started turning into an apple cinnamon smell whic hwas not half bad. I dont know why the smell is worse at a colder temp. not sure what i'll do with the other bottle either.

Yeah we had it at a tasting too, wasn't aware of the sulfur issue before. Two guys I was with couldn't get past the smell and drainpoured it right away, myself and another guy were able to finish our glasses and didn't think it was too bad once getting past the smell.

I've had plenty of infected beers before, but nothing quite like the sulfur in BA Muy Bonita. I know Funky Buddha uses all natural ingredients to flavor their beer, I'm assuming maybe it could be coming from one of the ingredients they used (such as the apples as mentioned by markgugs)? Bottles tend to condition differently, especially when exposed to different temperatures and other conditions. Not knowing what the issue is, the problem could easily develop more over time or there's a chance it could clear up.

This was addressed by Ryan (owner of Funky Buddha) in our facebook group. If anyone has any concerns they can contact him directly.

    "Hey everyone,
So obviously we have been hearing some reports of unintentionally "funky" beers. Strangely, it would almost be easier if all were bad, as we would be able to better identify what the problem was. We are collectively scratching our heads and then ramming them into walls.
We couldn't have been happier with how the beer turned out, and when it was put into kegs we thought the product was outstanding. However, clearly at some point something happened. Thankfully not to most, but definitely more than one person which, in our opinion, is unacceptable. We are working on a solution and don't want anyone to think this has gone unnoticed or will be brushed under the rug.
In the meantime, as we try and figure things out, if you have had a bad bottle or have unopened bottles that you are worried about please feel free to email me anytime.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Ryan as always the picture of professional when it comes to customer service. I have a question for all the people that have had problems with their bottles. We're they waxed or unwaxed bottles?

Just opened mine and enjoying it now. I purchased at the brewery, did not get it waxed, and it's been sitting in my cabinet (not chilled) since the bottle release. I was gonna save it for the holidays but this thread convinced me to open it. Anyway I did not get any offputting smell - rather it was kind of nonexistent. The bottle gushed a bit and was over carbonated at first. However after sitting for a few minutes I tried it and the taste is on point: sweet apple, cinnamon, vanilla and brandy. A tad sweet for my taste and a little boozy but still excellent. It was a tad better on tap at the brewery but not by much. This isn't one of my favorites by them but still very enjoyable.

sent away 3..2 were waxed..2/3 people opened 1 waxed..1 not waxed...non-waxed gushed and had the sewage smell but tasted good...and the other was waxed (@markgugs) and you can read his report in this thread. I still have bottles.. waxed 1 not..Ryan and the Buddha crew have always been very, VERY good to me...so i truly believe they will figure out a way to make this right.

I looked in my cellar and saw a few bottles that looked like they had a ring in the neck around the top layer of the beer. When I moved the bottles around to see which ones they were, every one with the ring was a BA Muy Bonita. Looks like a light layer of foam that seems to cling to the glass when I tip it to the side. Too late for those who have already opened theirs, but I'd like to know if someone notices the same ring in their bottles.

Had mine yesterday, unwaxed; stored refrigerated since it was shipped to me (the day after the release) and drank beautifully. No bad smells, just sweet apple and cinnamon. It was the perfect breakfast beer.

I emailed them last week about my experience with a bad bottle....haven't heard anything back yet. I was fortunate enough to get a (small) taste of a difference bottle at a share and it was phenomenal, which just made me more upset that I got a bad bottle.

a group of us opened a 2nd bottle this weekend and it had the faint smell of farts, but not the 'room-clearing, been eating chili and raisin bran all week' kind of farts some have mentioned. the taste was good and while still somewhat overcarbed, wasn't a gusher, which is more than i can say for the 4 Hands Chocolate milk stout bottle we opened the same night and EXPLODED all over me.

Opened mine tonight..waxed and had it refrigerated since release. Gushed upon opening and it definatley had that sulfer smell. Dissipated a bit as it warmed but was still there. :slight_frown:
