Funny you should mention that..... was told the pricing of their kegs (when I heard they were kegging, I immediately though... "Oh, you gonna have a Hoppin' Frog tap-takeover/tasting event?" and here is the reason for the resounding "NO" )

1/6 barrels of "normal" stuff were $200
1/2 barrels (yep, they're doing them, which sounds good and all) for $500

Holy cow.... did Fred Karm develop a booger-sugar habit or something??? Yikes!

From what I understand, they always kegged; I know we saw stuff in his early days. The problem was his prices... but I guess it is still a problem? All I know is I've seen Hop Heathen at a couple bars recently.

He inflates demand by selling to places like Denmark. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, actually I think it's smart, but those guys don't blink an eye paying $30-40 for a bottle of beer.

I have a bottle I plan to open at a tasting in Athens on 9/22 if you want to make the trip try it.

I don't care about the trade-ability of it.... but a little honesty would be nice. I probably wouldn't have dragged 2 small children 50 minutes each direction during the week to buy a "Brewery Only" beer (b1) if I would have known I could have purchased a couple of bottles from my local store I can walk to just a week later.

Heck, a different STATE had it on shelves the DAY BEFORE their "brewery only" release. It sounded fantastic, I wanted to make sure I didn't have to trade for a bottle of beer produced so close to home, so I went to the "release"

I feel like I was duped, but they sold a ton at the brewery for $20 a bottle or whatever it was, so good for them.

I like it, I bought a couple more bottles of b2 because I like it, and I buy, age, and then drink DORIS, Boris/BA Boris etc... I went to the Boris Royale release, etc... I feel like I support them as much as I can given their prices..... I just feel like they're over-priced, and I certainly won't be making the trek to the brewery where they have no tap-room/tasting/food/pub/whatever to pick up bottles I know will be all over the place, even if they do announce it as "Brewery Only" although I think they could only sheer that sheep so many times.

The medals and great beers don't mean shite if it's 15-25 dollars a bomber, because many people aren't going to pay those prices.

Well...I see 12 oz bottles going for $6 to $11. People pay those prices all the time...I don't like it, but I do it.

I see those bottles, too. But I leave them sitting there right next to the Hoppin Frog beer, and get something more reasonable(and in most cases, better).

DORIS is $12-13 around here and I think that is a reasonable price for a great beer. I want to hold a blind stout tasting and knock the socks off of people when they find out how highly they ranked a shelf beer.

I would have reluctantly tried BA Naked for $20. But at $26, I can get more than two bombers of overpriced Dreadnaught/Panzer/Cow and be happier.

Like I said, I'll give all of their beers a shot because I like them as a brewery. But I don't buy their stuff nearly as much as I would if their prices were reasonable. I see lots of Hoppin' Frog beers just collect dust on shelves, and it's definitely not because their beers suck.

agree on the overpricing and "brewery releases" that end up on shelves in a few days. a little gimmicky. the beer overall is alright for the most part. i actually dug naked evil and sweet evil. their bottles are good for home brewing because the labels are so easy to remove. that doesn't justify the prices, but just saying.

all in all, i'd rather pay $6 for a bomber of tunguska compared to most of their stuff.

I wouldn't go that far. Let's just say it was one of my least liked BWs ever tried. Light body, cloyingly sweet, no carb, 0 hop profile...

Heading to Cleveland this weekend. Is this just sitting around on the shelves or am I gonna have to call/hunt around a bit for it? Any info would be much appreciated!

I think it should probably still be hanging around in a few places. Might want to call a place or two just to make sure though.
