The big board at Spec's seems to always be updated. I was thrilled to get a Sucaba because I stopped in after work one day, assuming that I would miss out on what would surely be a super quick sellout once it was announced.

I'm pretty happy with the idea of Spec's not tweeting every release - I know a lot of y'all in the suburbs have stores that benefit you with lists or reservations or even private text messages and it's nice to have a store in my area benefit me.

No shit. Tweeting crap mainly help the people that are buying up all of the bottles. Hell, if I want 4 bottles of Sucaba, I take to twitter to follow who has them and I quickly go there. If a store wants to have the bottles there for whoever comes in and asks, that makes sense. It makes people actually do a little leg work to get the beer as opposed to just selling out in a second to people who never would go there otherwise.

That's how I got a Sucaba, too -- through blind luck and walking into Spec's Midtown at the right time. So I like the system, because it benefited me once. That's how this works, right? We all argue about what's "better", where "better" = "best for my personal interests".

I am arguing from a stores perspective - they rather have the people that regularly come there to get the beer as opposed to the people who just came because of a tweet.

As far as a consumer, it is great to see it on twitter because I can save my time and go immediately to a store and hope I beat the rush. But, if I miss out on a beer, I go to my regular places that do not tweet and hope they still have it.

I think if it's a decent allocation of a sought-after beer, say 5 cases or more, anouncing the arrival via twitter makes sense. But if it's something like Firestone Walker where the store only gets 12 bottles, it doesn't make much sense to create a feeding frenzy.

    Just my 2 cents
