I will be coming to St. Louis in about a week's time and noticed that BA Sump was being released tomorrow. From all the Facebook traffic, I presume the entire supply will be sold on release day but was curious whether it might be around on draft for a while. And whether kegs make it anywhere other than the brewpub as I will be staying in Clayton and the brewpub is some distance away. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.
Bottles will definitely sell out on release day (I believe it sold out an hour before open last year). Perennial BA stout kegs don't show up outside of the brewery very often; the keg on the release night will probably kick pretty quick. Trying to guess if the brewery will tap another keg is a crapshoot. For some of the other recent limited releases they've had bottles for on premise consumption (for the Anniversary Blend anyway, not sure on if they did that for Maman as well).
Sold out before open last year? As in, they handed out tickets and ran out an hour before the sale began or ???
That's what I'd heard from people that were there; they ran out of tickets at 3pm last year. Members weren't able to purchase an extra bottle due to it being a lower yield last year, but that doesn't really a good indication of whether the public release bottle count is lower/higher/the same as last year.
Yes, had a buddy get there an hour before release last year and tickets ran out a few people in front of him.
Keep in mind, last years realese was on a Friday on a beutiful day in March. Not a 23 degree day in Jan. after a major holiday. Mileage may differ...
There is no set time for tickets to be handed out if they are needed to be handed out. That decision gets made if it becomes obvious that there are more people in line than bottles of beer so as to not have people standing around for nothing. The line is counted multiple times throughout the day to make sure the correct decision is made.
