Hi all. I am back in Boston for work, and usually enjoyed browsing the "Visiting Boston Summer Guide" that was updated each year but it looks like it hasn't been in quite a few years. Can someone give some new suggestions of things that may have opened that have great beer (first and foremost) & food?

I'm in the Financial District. I usually enjoy doing places like; The Merchant, Stoddard's, jm Curley, Meadhall, Cambridge Brewing, Night Shift, The Ginger Man, Five Horses, Salty Pig, The Publick House, Row 34... I am also going to check out the new Trillium spot. I am looking for something new that I can access via the T, since I have a 7-day pass (might as well use it as much as possible!).

    Cheers,
    Shane

You'll be glad to know that Night Shift has added a cool brewpub right near the TD Garden and an outdoor beer garden at the Esplanade along the Charles.

The Boston Harbor hotel is also hosting a rotating beer garden right on the water (and right across the street from Trillium's outdoor beer garden on the Greenway). I believe Jack's Abby is the current occupant of the space. And speaking of Jack's Abby, they've also set up a small pub in the TD Garden.

    Have fun and stay cool.

I just stumbled across Night Shift Lovejoy Wharf while looking for breweries on Google Maps. Awesome! That's so close by. Thanks for the other recommendations too!

From the sounds of it you probably already know about them, but for my money Idle Hands is the best overall beer in the city, and their taproom is right off the orange line.

I know of them, but I did not know their taproom was right off the Orange Line. Thanks!

Castle Island has a beer garden at Constitution Wharf in Charlestown. It's be a bit of a walk from the Orange line, but I hear it's a pretty cool and relaxing set-up. Also, it's not too far from Brewers Fork which has great food and a solid tap list.

If you don't mind jumping in an Uber from Charlestown, Mystic is right across the Tobin and is close to an excellent gastro pub, Chelsea Station, that usually has a solid tap list too.

I used to do that Boston guide, but I moved to the burbs and work in NH, so I don't feel as up to speed as I used to be. Someone else can definitely take up the mantle if they like. The biggest change in the last couple of years: pop-up beer gardens and satellite brewery locations everywhere.

Democracy Brewing is next to jm Curley.
I'm a fan of Remnant Brewing. It's at Bow Market which has about a dozen local food vendors you can bring into the brewery. It's near Aeronaut Brewing.

Definitely take the orange line to idle hands and check out Mystic station and Hugh oniels after.

Are there decent takeout food options near the Trillium beer garden on the greenway? Their site links to a page on food trucks but it doesn't really list anything other than a cookie truck on saturdays/sundays.

Any other suggestions for a reasonable, kid and vegetarian/pescetarian friendly place between Boston Commons and the waterfront? all the typical recommendations I see (trillium in fort point, row 34, etc) all seem to be like $30 entrees and looking for something a little more chill.

Food trucks are mostly there during the week unfortunately... weekends is a little tougher, but I've been there on Saturdays/Sundays and they've had food trucks. Though the city of Boston website has a more thorough guide to food trucks, I find it unreliable at best.

Granary Tavern has outdoor seating -- it's probably a three-minute walk from Trillium Garden on the Greenway and it's right across the street from the Greenway... easy walk. Kid friendly, though not sure about the veggie/fish restrictions. I think most entrees there are in the teens. Our kids like it since they can see the big trucks going by, fountains going off nearby, etc.

If you're going to be closer to Trillium on Thomson Place, the Smoke Shop BBQ on Congress Street has good food, a good beer list and it's *great* for kids. The last time I went, I recall crayons, etc., but they also brought out watermelon slices for the four-year old. He probably had five or six of them, so yeah ... it's now his favorite restaurant.

EDIT: You asked for vegetarian/pescetarian friendly places, and I realized now I recommended BBQ. Well, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, I guess... apologies!

Check out Clover. Vegetarian sandwiches and salads. They have a couple locations in that area. Silvertone is a good and inexpensive restaurant near the common. Tons of good and cheap spots in Chinatown. Dumpling Cafe, Peach Farm, Shojo to name a few.
