I have had nothing but good experiences since I started trading last year. However, this past weekend had what I thought to be a locked up trade fall through that left me a little salty. Curious to hear any feedback on how this went down:

I saw the ISO: FT post
I PMed guy to ask if it was still open
He said still open and asked if I wanted to deal
I offered the beer he was asking for (it was a 1:1)
    Agreed to meet IP
He suggested a day to meet
I agreed and asked for place to meet
He replies saying "someone offered something to sweeten the deal, sorry"

Maybe this is just me venting. Anyway, probably better off not dealing with someone pulling that crap.

    Cheers!

At least you didn't make it to the location without anyone showing up...

I haven't done many I/p trades but I would say nothing set in stone until you agree on a place and open a trade request. This happens all the time. I had someone bm me today with a 5:1 proposal which was more than I wanted to go . I agreed to it anyway, he asked me wo wait a half hour and he put up an Iso at the same time to get a better deal. I just moved on to the next offer.

That is really poor form. He put up the post, you agreed to what he was looking for and deal was made. Him taking a better offer is a form of an auction style post asking for best offer. What this forum is supposed to be is two people making trade on what each other is looking for, not finding the best deal.

Two much "winning" on this forum. In the long run winners lose because they are turning this into a business transaction. In the long run those of us who make strong trading partners by not winning end up with more great beer and good friends than the "winners" ever could.

I hope you're not speaking from actual experience. You are right about that though. Probably would be that same feeling (if not worse:wink:) as getting stood up back some 20 yrs ago!

If you do not want to call them out publicly for their "poor form" please send me a private email so I can add them to my do not contact / trade with list.

    Thanks.

I don't think what he did was wrong. I think the way he told you was stupid and tactless. Here's what he should have said: Very sorry, something came up and I need to pull out of this trade. Done.

It might be poor form on his part—I’m not entirely sure—but consider yourself lucky that you’re not out any beer or very much time. I agree that mentioning that someone else sweetened the deal was unnecessary. If it were me, I would just make a note of it and move on.

I know with non-IP trades, the consensus seems to be that once addresses have been swapped, the trade is confirmed. I suppose agreeing on a day and time is the analogue for IP trades.

He agreed to the trade, and suggested a place to meet. Sounds like it was a done deal at that point.

Personally I have a big issue with this, and stuff like this is one of the main reasons I only trade with regular trading partners any more. Too many games now, too many auctions on the trade page, and too much trying to "win" every trade.

Yes, you are definitely better off not dealing with a greedy, no-integrity weasel like that. There are plenty of good traders out there. And plenty of bottles of Prop too.

Couldn't agree more with you on this. I would've been much more receptive to that.

put him on your douchebag list for future reference and warn others as you have the oppotunity. This is poor beer advocacy.

I'll one-up this: agree on a trade, agree on a location (beer-related event), buy beer for the trade (location is not local), haul the beer to the location, spend two hours futilely waiting for / texting with the person, and finally haul the beer back home. There's more beyond this, but you get the idea. This kind of situation is why we need a "Neutral" feedback status on trades -- not quite bad enough to leave negative feedback, but definitely not a positive experience.

    ^^ So much this^^
If he's dealing with more than one person at the same time then don't agree to the trade. Let OP know that you may have a deal with someone else before finalizing date/time/location. Why is it so hard to be upfront & truthful??

This certainly is bad enough to leave negative feedback.
