I really hope. This beer puts the " Scotch " into Scotch ale. Booze feels more 16-18% than 11.6% this year. Not many ' beer ' characteristics to be noted as is.

This year's has a subtle dark cherry dryness that I haven't tasted in previous years and is a lot less vanilla/caramel forward...batch variation and variables in general are a hell of a drug.

    This.

The problem with aging is that it does mellow out, but it also becomes more flat, both in carbonation and in flavor. So it becomes more drinkable, but does not increase in flavor.

    Just my opinion.

Is it me or is Backwoods not only better this year, but harder to find. I was lucky to pick some up the day it landed but its already gone everywhere I've tried this week. I'm in north Jersey and it didn't last 2 weeks. Last year it hung around for a few months

Not sure if it's better this year I still have a couple of 4 packs from last year in the cellar and actually think with a years age on it is still getting even better I'm hoping this years goes the same way.

    So.much.flavor.

This is def in my top 5 beers. It's crazy how I really don't like Dirty Bastard but you put it in some bourbon barrels and I can't get enough of the stuff.

Probably my favorite beer from Founders. Hope it shows up soon at my usual haunts.

Last years batch taste like whiskey and water. THIS years batch is 200% better with tons of caramel and toasty goodness. Hard to believe its almost 12%!

Also I have a Giant Eagle fairly close to my house where I can get 4 packs for 14.99!
I may get one every week if the supply holds out

I think that is probably because of this post but I agree out of the 3 local Giant Eagles I visit every one of them had tons of Harvest and Breakfast Stout but only one still has around a case of the Bastard

It should start showing up either today or tomorrow depending on where you're located.

Agreed. Last time I had it was a few months ago (bottle aged a couple years) and it was boozy as hell. I love regular Dirty Bastard but Backwoods is evidently not for me.

As I continued into the four pack I adjusted my ratings and they went nowhere but down. I love bourbon barrel aged just about anything. It took me probably three hours to drink two bottles and that's because I was half forcing myself to do it.

I've had bigger ABV beers that hid the booze ten times better than this one. Still wasn't the worst thing in the world, but I won't buy it again.

Not sure if it matters, but this years batch is way less boozey from the start. Aging for 6 months to a year really mellows it out.

Agreed, this year's is excellent right out of the gate.
