Finished the four pack I bought. The last one was great...seemed a lot more balanced than the other three in the pack..

This ever happen to anybody else?

Yes, and not just with Backwoods. Founders seems to be inconsistent with its barrel aged beers in general. KBS varies wildly within the case and even 4packs.

There was at least a 6 case stack at the Glen Ellyn Binny's this past Wednesday.

The previous three were pure booze but the fourth was a lot more vanilla forward and was quite tasty.

Now I need another four pack to see how I TRULY feel about this one

I am going to sound like a crazy person with this comment...last night I had my first of this year. I swear I had the same flavor variations from the same bottle. I sipped it for just about an hour, and at first, while it was still cool/cold mind you, there was a really nice balance of booze up front, followed by the vanilla/oak/toasted marshmallow sweetness. After it warmed a bit, it seemed more bourbon boozy throughout. The last 1/4 was back to the balance with bourbon followed by the mellow sweetness. I don't know...must have been my palette adjusting while drinking, but the complexity was always changing. Like I said, crazy person...

FWIW, The last 1/4 of Backwoods Bastard are always my favorite sips. I think the best flavors come out after it has time to warm. I keep them cellar temp about 60 degrees, too cold and none of the flavors come out. Stick your nose in there and get a good whiff, you're not a crazy person. 2015 BB to me is huge coconut, while the 2014 was huge bourbon/vanilla. I wish I had some 2014 to compare. I picked up a case this weekend $96.85 out the door.

my experience was different but also suggestive of some bottle to bottle variability. 3/4 were good to great...the last one just tasted off/oxidized, even after warming. maybe some kind of bottling issue?

Loving it this year, still think it'll gain from a year or two on it. Will buy another 4-pack to age.

Just opened my first 2015, having drank a 2014 a week or two ago. The current batch is in a whole other league as compared to the cellared bottle. Perhaps it's just batch variation, but I do not plan to let my new bottles last the winter.

I agree with some that there seems to be inconsistency between bottles. I've had 3 bottles from different packs. The first 2 were incredibly smooth and delicious. Last nights bottle was much more boozy, but still tasty.

Drinking a 2014 right now. It's still rather boozy after a year. The 2015 is much better--really smooth. If my memory serves me well, 2012 may have been the best year.

Bought a 4 pk yesterday. I think I'll have one about every 3 months for an "aging trial".

Had my first two of this batch last night, both were excellent as expected as I had aged them from last Wednesday

I am sad to hear this may be common. I just opened my first backwoods of this year, and it is absolutely amazing. Better than any I had in years past. I hope I can go buy many more and they will all be the same.

I picked up my 4-pack for 15.99 at Total Wine here in FL. Drank one last night. Smelled strongly of bourbon but was quite smooth.
