After a year long wait I picked up a case today. Just poured my first 2016 but it tastes a bit off. I'm not sure if it's just my palate is off tonight but certainly hope so, but the bitterness seems really high and not as much heat as I was hoping for. It's definitely not a drain pour though

First time trying it and I had the same reaction about the taste being off. Not very impressed considering all the hype.

Yikes. Other opinions? I've been on the hunt for a case, but will stick with a four pack if there's a growing consensus around this. I was skeptical about "off" claims surrounding that other popular BBA beer -- but now take them more seriously. That "drink fresh" post from Founders adds to my suspicion a bit too.

    What do you say, Advocates?

Mine was perfect. I didn't taste any bitterness and the bourbon heat was all there.

I had one for the first time last night and thought it was very good. Dark fruit, oak, very smooth. I really didn't get much bitterness at all.

I have not opened any of the bottles I bought yet, but did have a bottle at a bar over the weekend and it was as delicious as ever.

Don't ya tend to get more boozyness while fresh? Which I think is a good thing

I picked up some of the CW BBSA based on reviews and since CW is my favorite brewery. I liked it, and it seemed to be better than I recalled BB being. Guess I'll have to do a side-by-side too, fun with two high-ABV beers!

Buy it! My preference is to drink it around 6-9 months after bottling date. But it's great fresh too.

Agree wholeheartedly, this is a brew that begs to be aged a bit.

I drank my last '15 Monday night in anticipation that this would be the week for SE MI. Sure enough it lands everywhere yesterday (picked up a case at Meijer btw at $13.99/4-pack). So had one last night and liked it better than the '15. Definitely not off in flavor. Obviously didn't do a side-by-side but the BWB that I picked up is just fine.

Does Founders pasteurize (or whatever Goose Island announced they're now doing with BCBS)?

That's why I'm buying 2 cases this time around. One to drink and one to age for up to a year:slight_smile:

I think they say drink fresh on just about all their beers from what I've seen on their replies on Facebook

I think "drink fresh" has become the standard line fir most beers...Unless they specifically say that it adapts well to aging....It like it has become the disclaimer....This way if we age it and it turns around and tastes like shit....We can't come back on them.....I will still age some regardless....

Someone referred to seeing it on their Facebook page recently. FWIW, I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on a case if I can find one.

Actually, just picked up a case of 2016 and found one from 2015! Lots of "comparison" coming up over this coming year:wink:
