Backwoods Bastard 2016

Just hit by me yesterday. Grabbed quite a bit as this is one of my favs. I do like the 15 a little better than the 16 right now. I'm guessing a few months time will straighten that all out. Still great IMO. This is a great BA beer as always. Nothing "off" about it. Fresh it's always a little hot, with time that tones down and the other flavors become more pronounced.

What magical place do you live where there are cases of 15 and 16 BB hanging around? Was there a stack of unicorns next to them too?!

 

Sitting on a 4-pack at home. Might wait until Thanksgiving to crack it.

Or maybe not.

 

Philly suburbs...ordered a case of '16 and when I walked in, they still had a case of '15 on the racks. Took it!

 

Any Ohio sightings yet?

 

I have never seen there be limits on this beer.

 

The TW I was at had multiple 4 packs. Gonna hit up a different TW this weekend and grab another 4 pack if they have it. South FL

Has this already hit Chicago? I haven't seen it anywhere but maybe I missed the one crucial day.

 

Always until this year.

 

In previous years my store in Birmingham had a 1 4-pack limit, but this year they increased it to 3. Picked mine up yesterday.

 

Atlanta used to have them early in the release of backwoods. Greens and places like that would do two 4 packs a person. Same with harvest. Once the first blast hit, it would then go to the shelf till gone. This was back before everyone and their mother caught on to craft and before founders had a substantial barrel program.

 

No limit that I know of here.

 

I noticed something similar, though I don't think I would call it "off". I think it's just young. This is a beer with some bold flavors, and it seems to me that it gets better with a little time on it. Those '15s I still have left are tasting awesome right now, and I think once these '16s mellow out a little they'll be right there too.

All of that said, it's still a fantastic beer when it's fresh. It just becomes an all-time fav for me once it has a few months on it.

 

Found a case today in SE Pennsylvania, and bottle one is tasting great. Nothing "off" in this bottle, although I do agree the bittering hops are noticeably stronger.

 

I thought the same thing. I wonder if it spent less time in barrels than their previous batches.

 

Showed up here Monday. Picked it up yesterday. Guy behind me in line asked me about it. Apparently I said the right thing. Last i saw, he was at the shelf, reaching for it with both hands. : )

 

16 drank real smooth, nothing off at all. Little less heat maybe or might just be me. Get it while you can BAs.

 

None yet , strange cuz Kentucky got theirs a few weeks ago
