Just got some BB...Does anyone have any experience with aging this? I was thinking of stashing a 4 pack or two & see what happens....

Yes! I have experience with aging this and highly recommend it. Overall, it melllows out nicely and flavors of dried fruit come out similar to a beligian dark ale.

Lovely! I just bought 3-4 packs. I'm set for my first try with this brew this week. Then will age the others over the next year or however long my willpower holds out:wink:

The question isn't will it age well but can you not drink it? I love that brew. I would shower in it.

I wish I could score a case I usual trade for a few and I usually end up drinking it.

I can't see how age would improve this beer...it's about as good as a beer like this could possibly get IMO! I feel like aging it might fade the bourbon a bit, which I certainly don't want

I can't see any of them making it past Christmas in my house

I have heard both opinions on aging it. I just had one from last year and it tasted great. Didn't try side by side with this year though. Some of the reviews call out the vintage so see what some recent ones say about the previous vintages

I set a 4 pack of it back in 2011 and in 2012. I did a mini vertical last night and found that while it is still good with a little age on it, it is best fresh. The bourbon tends to fade with each year of age and the overall flavor of the beer seems to "dull" a bit.

It can age, but why? It's perfect fresh. The base is massive and hold ups to such huge bourbon flavors. If you're a wuss, or just want to tell people that you're cellaring more beer without good reason, go for it. If you like a true 5/5 beer, drink now.

Guess I'm not with the herd on this one. We did a 2010, 2011, & 2012 last year when the 2012 came out & the fresh Backwoods won by a country mile. The 2011 was still plenty good, but the 2010 was thinner & the bourbon was definitely well faded.

Will continue to stockpile the Bastard for soonish consumption, but my cellaring experiment with this beer is over.

I think the longest any lasted in my cellar was 8 months. I like fresh, find it a near perfect beer as it is.

Wax doesn't seal in oxygen. However, since it's not a very carbonated beer, just keep it refrigerated and it should last you a good while. Why would wouldn't pop that bitch and dome the whole thing the instant you get home (or in the car?) is way beyond me.
