I opened a 2010 Backwoods a couple weeks ago....wow was it tasty. The bourbon mellowed out, but in the best way possible.

Before 2011 Founders used a black ink/laser print/whatever on their bottles, harder to see than the current yellow, so you might not be able to see it until you pour the beer out. Try rotating it in a bright light, it should be somewhere on the neck.

Snagged the last 2011 bottle from a bar by my job yesterday in preparation and celebration of the release. You could say I'm excited.

I wouldn't age it for more than 6 months. I think it's a bit too one dimensional (lots of hot bourbon) when fresh. However, the barrel flavors do fall pretty quickly, so be warned. After a year, the barrel flavor is hardly noticeable. Mileage may vary.

At 4-5 months it hits a really nice rich balance. It's really one of those beers that's good fresh through forever.

I recently just had a 2011 release just a couple weeks ago and thought that it was much better with the 9 months on it than fresh. The ABV is still present but its not nearly as much which allows for the bourbon and mega caramel to come out. I surprisingly still found the vanilla to be present and and the hops have died down.

I definitely prefer it with age. I can't wait to drink a 4-5yr vertical in a few years.

Drinking a 2009 tonight after have a fresh one a couple nights earlier. The 09 is still good, but the 12 was better. A decent amount of the sweetness has faded.

I've had a fresh compared to 1 year and though with age the beer was still good I felt the fresh 2012 had much more complexity to its flavor.

Had a 2011 last night, albeit it was after numerous other beers, and I recall this one being better fresh, though it still held up just fine for the most part.
