I have a potential trade where I will be giving up a Backyard and trader is offering up a Kentucky Dark Star and Pirate Bomb. Having never had either of these beers was wondering what other people thought of them.
Anything Bomb I've had seems to be all over the place, some are great, some bad, some overly heavy on the chilis. Had a bomb last night and it was not a waxed cap, but a pepper Bomb. I had a few Pirates and they were ok nothing more. I personally wouldn't do this trade. KDS is a great beer, but I much prefer the Backyard.
Pirate Bomb is my favorite of the series thus far, and KDS is fan-fucking-tastic. Wasn't a huge Backyard Rye fan either, so I'd do this trade in a second.
Can't speak to KDS, but I'd vastly prefer having Backyard over Pirate Bomb. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid beer, but I think its rarity exceeds its quality. FWIW, Fred's Blend is my favorite Bomb thus far.
