There is a brewpub in a particularly well-visited Colorado resort town that gets horrible reviews on Trip Advisor. The reviews were so bad that it convinced me to not visit them. I bought their beer in the local liquor stores to try, and I was pretty amazed at how underwhelming it was. Maybe the tourism is just enough to keep them going, I don't know.

Hoped you headed a few miles away and ate at Mountain Brauhaus!

in NYC, IMO Heartland and Chelsea fall into the BTS category

Funny you mention Mountain Brauhaus because one of the two new and excellent breweries I referenced in my post, Yard Owl, is opening their brewpub very near to there. The other brewery I ref.'ed is Brewery at Bacchus and they are just killing it.

    +1

I can drag my wife and my oldest kids in college to local breweries, but if the family goes out, sometimes we will hit a BJ's, Rock Bottom, or another local micro-brewery. It's better than going to other restaurants and having no choice for real beer. I just find one or two beers that I like and stick to them. Keep it safe...

A lot of people love the predictability of chains ( my kids ). I don't wait more than 1 beer if I have any say in the matter.

Yeah the firehouse didn't blow me away, but it had no competition when I passed through in 06...

With how many people here that don't buy the same beer twice it's amazing that the good breweries are still open. Actually it's really not when you realize how small a sector we are in the craft world. Shipyard is still open because people drink the shit out of pumpkinhead every year. Others are the ones buying up all the breweries year round linup beers keeping them in business. There are people who will drink at local places just because they are local. These are the people keeping breweries in business. We are a very small part of that.

In Cleveland, Indigo Imp has been open for 7-8 years and I have no idea how considering most of their beer tastes like shit and sulfur mixed with yeast. Open fermentation in Cleveland is a bad idea.

It has nothing to do with being old. I realized that I could cook better than 95% of the restaurants in Rhode Island when I was like 28.

local watering hole is my only thought. Best example is Schmozs in GR, nothing great but they have there locals.

Yeah the bar is pretty low around here. Usually the only time we go out local is when we are just to tired to cook or hell, even scare up a sandwich. I'd just as soon wait until I'm out of town take my chances in the bigger towns near by...

I can't even imagine what the restaurant scene is like in Oklahoma.

the inflated sense of how important the opinions of this community are when compared to the rest of the drinking/dining population is ridiculous.

someone else said it, this is a niche within a niche. certainly not enough to move the needle at the vast majority of bars/brewpubs etc. that are being bashed.

stop gazing at your own navels and realize there's a wider world out there

Great in Tulsa & that area. Sad here. There are a handful of places as long as you are down with Southern Food, BBQ or Steaks. Closer by, there are some pretty good places in Joplin, MO & Northwest Arkansas (about 50 miles away, but everything is 50 miles away here:grimacing:)

Just because the majority of people wish to spend their money on mediocrity doesn't mean I have to. Just expressing MY opinion. I doubt if the world gives a rat's ass, but it makes me feel better. We didn't the great beer & food that is now available ( in many places ) by accepting the same old shit... Enough people are voting with their wallets, it is impacting what the big boys are doing.

You must be in or around the Big Cabin/Vinita/Ketchum triangle then if it's ~50 miles to Joplin or NW Ark. I will agree that there are some really good places in Tulsa depending on what type of food you want, but once you get past the Catoosa or Claremore exits on 44, you're getting a bit far from the city and from there on you're pretty much SOL.

Grove, I deal in approximate #s:wink: It could be worse, I do live in town & not down the hollow. Still haven't found any Thai food in T-town that makes me happy...
