Damn, beat my record of 15 cases in one trip, nearly bottomed out my little Hyundai.

P.S. If any one who is a trustee wants a copy of a spreadsheet I made to help organize the beers let me know, and if any one has suggestions or tips that would be helpful.

I hate asking people for stuff! A lot of people didn't re-up for next year, which is fine, but those that did... well, you know.
straight from u-haul.com to my house...
You should've seen my VW; luckily it's a hatchback but hauling all that beer plus 2 other people-- we were riding pretty low lol

To echo others - it's completely nuts that's the people you trustee for don't send you anything. Just piss-poor manners. By any chance... are they 2012'ers? Kidding... a little.

surprisingly enough, no, been around longer than me:grimacing: oh well, I did it for the beer karma (for reals) and hopefully all my good deeds will come around to me one day!

I order my trustee shippers from uhaul, is that bad form? Or just that they never send you anything?

I mail mine a few boxes with tough to get midwest beers as a thank you (and we reuse the shippers), but i don't send him a beer for every beer he mails for me, so we need more shippers to get all of the bruery stuff...

Thats some ridiculous shit right there. You go to all that trouble for people, and they can't hook you up? Damn, if a guy is willing to meet me for an IP trade I feel the need to drop multiple bottles on him just for the effort!

If I ever decide to do RS, I know who to ask to be my trustee, and I'll take good care of ya.

I think that is a correct way to do it, at least that is similar to the relationship I have with the people I trustee for. They buy a bunch of shippers from a store online and have it mailed directly to me. Then I fill them when i have the beer. Every so often they send a shipper back with beer. Sometimes they will send 2-4 shippers back to me, but only one will have beer.

whew, thought i wasn't on the up-and-up here. i definitely don't mind sending my trustee some serious beers, he does a ton of work getting these beers to me, but often buying new shippers is the cheaper than shipping them back empty, and many times the boxes will be pretty beat up anyway (corners broken out, etc).

I guess we usually do 4-5 shipments a year, and they range from 2-4 boxes to me. i will usually save up beer from various releases around here and send him a full box for every shipment (and some oddball small boxes if i get something interesting).

I send my trustee "thank you" boxes every time I can get a 12 bottle shipper filled. With my RS bottles, he always sends back a surprise bottle or two including homemade pickles and other such goodies. I do a little trustee-ing for him on this side of the country, and it balances in that respect. I think the trustee relationship should be entered into just like with long-term trade partners. Take care of them as you want to be taken care of. Break their damn porch when you can, but always be sure that you letting them know how much you appreciate their assistance and, hopefully, their friendship.

You're getting hosed. I send my trustee limited and local beers every time I send back a shipper.

As trustees, do you commonly get reimbursed for shipping plus beers in the shipper or are the beers in the shipper compensating for the shipping costs?

I'm a first time trustee to a great regular trading partner of mine. I initially told him to just send me beers instead of reimbursement for shipping, but he thought it easier just to give me a check since shipping a 12-pk is pricey. That's was fine by me. But he's such a cool person that I think he may send me a check AND beers. If he does that, I'll bombard his porch right back, but I'm curious what is the norm?

they pay for it all. I have the fedex account numbers for the people I trustee for, that way I can fill out and print labels whenever I need to

I think the norm is to pay for shipping/packing materials and send an occasional 'thank you box' with some killer beers. If I ever asked someone to Trustee for me, I would make a point to do that.

Think about all the costs involved:

    - Shipping
    - Shipping materials
    - Time

You should be reimbursed for all, in a manner of your choosing. If you are not, move on.

Wow...nothing as in NOTHING?!?!?! i hate asking people for stuff as well and i have done my fair share of muling/proxying stuff for people when they need a favor. i never expect anything in return for that stuff other than the same consideration when they can get something i want (in those cases i don't mind asking for some help). some people do send you thank you boxes and what not and those folks go to the top of the list for doing it again, but i don't discount people who don't send a thanks box, but they will be at the bottom of the list for future proxy opportunities...at this point, i do so much proxying that i hardly trade...just send people i know the beer they want for cost and shipping label and they do the same - sometimes with extras even.

however, whenever someone is helping me out from the goodness of their heart or doing me a favor for a release or whatnot, i always make it a point to either buy them a bottle or two or hit them back with some local favs at the very least. i am shocked that you have picked up beer, boxed it, shipped it to people and got nothing in return. no, i'll cover one of your reserve society bottles or send you some local favs? what if they can get something you ISO...do you ever reach out to them for a trade or hookup? i'd think that they would be the first people to ask.

if i were you and you trusteed for someone for the year and they didn't even offer a thanks, i'd drop them at the end of the year...or even say to them that you are overloaded and can't handle all the trustee'ing.
