Picked up my 4 pack in Braintree today. Its from 5/14 and I'm really enjoying it. Reminds me, if anything, of SAP.

My CBC Plymouth cans are also from the 5/14 batch.

This stuff is great! The malt profile creates balance without detracting from the hops. All the while, still crushable for something that clocks in at 8.2%.

i assume this is a typo and you meant acetaldehyde (green apple) and NOT diacetyl (butterscotch)?

Yes, I am not an experienced home brewer and don't have a super fine understanding of the difference off-flavors. They were definitely there though. And like I said before, it tasted most like a 'green' imperial stout I brewed once.

^I believe you and think (emphasis on think) I would have picked up those flavors, but I didn't.

What's the date on your cans? (NOT A EUPHEMISM)

Yeah, you and everyone in MA that bought from CBC got a different batch than me. Your batch sounds like it's fine. You got 5/14, I got 5/22.

Hmm good to know. I'll open another one tonight, from yet another different 4-pack in my case. If that one's bad too then I guess I got a bad case.

05/14/15 just picked up from Julios. It's a nice beer but not juicy or hype worthy. Thanks a lot Tree House.

That's interesting because I've had several Tree House hoppy offerings and think it's just as good and if not better than anything I've had from them. Matter of opinion.

Keep in mind every person has different tolerance levels for those yeast byproducts. Some people can taste them at much lower levels.

Also, hops can be perceived very different from person to person. Once in awhile I get a buttery like flavor from heavy citra hopped IPAs

Picked up a case this past weekend and each 4-pack tastes drastically different. The first couple I tried gave off the acetaldehyde flavor that @pavement714 described, whereas this most recent one that I tried tastes just as fresh and crisp as I've always known it to be.

I'll have to sample the rest of the 4-packs and report back...for science...

Yup, can't get enough of people being amazed that not everyone in the beer world has the exact same taste as them....

This is wonderful to know, thanks for the input.

My question is: what responsibility does the brewery have to the consumer on this? I spent good money on this beer, and it did not deliver on its intended flavor. Curious to hear people's opinions on this.

Unless it's a huge glaring production error (i.e. several batches of Captain's Daughter) I'd say very little. There are so many factors. The beer could have been poorly handled/stored at any point along the line until you crack a can. Not to mention the possibilities of it being a palate issue with the drinker.

Being a small time brewery with a great reputation so far, I would just take this as a loss, especially since there have been mixed reviews. Hopefully they become aware of the issue and research the problem. In the end this should hopefully be beneficial lesson for the brewery resulting in better QC for the consumer, just stink for you.
