I wasn't sure if this could be posted in the "Bad Trader" area, since I didn't end up sending my box out, but I wanted to post in case this person tries to do the same to someone else.

I answered a post from @RxRyan asking for Apple Brandy Noir. I was able to pull together a case for him for a bunch of my wants. He was really late accepting my trade, only after I politely sent him several messages informing him that I had opened a trade with him. I boxed his stuff up, and got a Fedex tracking number to him, and told him I would be ready to ship out his beer as soon as he was ready. I have now not heard from him for three weeks, and his Profile is showing up as "Unavailable." I'm not sure if he was trying to get me to send him a free case, or if there is any other reason he would disappear, but now I have an abundance of Apple Brandy Noir, haha.

I'm not sure what the protocol for this would be, and how I go about dealing with the open trade I have with him now. I would also love any insight on how his profile is simply "Unavailable" at this time. I never want to call someone out that doesn't deserve it, but I just have heard nothing for a while, and don't want anyone else to get taken advantage of. Any insights would be appreciated. Cheers!

I see his last logon was Feb 12, 2015. Perhaps he retired his account? A moderator can check that out for you. I don't know what you can really do if he did close his account though.

Have you reached out to him by other means (phone number and email)?

    This account is permanently closed.

There are no notes on the reason why, but noone else will be hearing from him on this account name.

I'd trade for a bottle or two of that Noir though...

He didn't give me his email or phone number, which started my suspicions...

Ok! Thank you for letting me know!

It would be really helpful in these sort (and several other sorts) of situations for there to be some general indication why an account is unavailable (temporarily banned, permanently banned, retired, etc).

    Understood.

    You can always ask @Todd

He has more access to that info than we do as mods.

Why retire then start a new account, seems like trouble for no gain, unless the gain was a stash of beer at the end. Could he open a new account after he retired his old one if the box would have been shipped by the Op?

Nc41, there's usually very little reason, especially for members with very little history. However, for those with little to no history a nice beer stash could be reason enough. A calculating crook could easily acquire 2 or 3 positive fb for very little $$$ by doing a couple of small local IP trades. Herb, & others of his ilk, have proven that there are calculating thieves out there as well as unethical slackers. Intentional thieves will target high value bottles or large hauls. This is another reason I'm glad the Bros & the mods are working it on 'taking it to the next level' when that seems necessary & appropriate.

I don't know that this particular situation would warrant 'taking it to the next level'. I'm reasonably certain they're going to be uber cautious in implementing it but I wonder if Spike-likes-beer would ever have rec'd anything if he'd actually shipped that case of yummy AB Noir. I'm also curious as to whether the acct was retired in the hopes of receiving the beer while avoiding a potential ban. He can legitimately register another acct which wouldn't be true if he'd been banned.

Most members whose interest has waned will simply not use the site & they assuredly will not be setting up a fairly large trade for some very nice beer. That smacks of deliberation, imo.

Granted, someone who was angry with BA, the mods &/or Bros, might want to retire his acct. If that was truly the reason the person would either not have initiated the trade or would not retired the acct until after the trade was satisfactorily completed.
