Yeah, my thoughts as well. With a bad rating and future trades unlikely, he has no incentive to make good on this now.

No one likes to give *negative* feedback, but sometimes an example has to be made in order to warn people or persuade the trader in question to change their ways. If people don't leave the appropriate feedback, but rather continue to leave *positive feedback* when its not warranted, the trader will continue to do *get away with things* things that are not appropriate. I'm either lucky or fortunate that every trade I've done hasn't gone this route, but has truly been *positive*. Beer trading is no different than the "real world", there are always bad people out there. Unfortunately, you ran into one, as well as others.

There is nothing positive about sending out a box and getting nothing in return on a trade agreement. If there is any consolation, you leaving negative feedback will warn others from future endeavors, and for that I say thank you! Sorry I can't help you out with the Pliny.

Glad I got to take one for the team! Sounds like others have as well.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I think a big problem is that the community can't even agree *what* warrants negative or neutral feedback. Once you get beyond downright thievery, there's quite a variety of opinion on what might constitute neutral or negative or positive feedback.

On the other hand, combing through feedback for tell-tale signs like "ships slowly" or similar yellow flags might yield more valuable insight than a simple thumbs up or thumbs down.

But until everyone magically agrees on what feedback to give when, this problem will continue.

If it's any consolation, this is a topic the mods have stuggled with for some time (how to make trading as safe as possible, and what do with "bad traders"). Todd initiated a thread in the moderators forum some months ago, soliciting ideas and recommendations from other mods on the topic. The results (so far) have included the FeedBack system, the bad trader forum, and what I would call a more rebust penalty system for bad traders. It's still a work in progress, but suffice it to say, this is a concern that the bros and the mods take very, very seriously.

That being said, I can't over empathize the importance of familiarizing oneself with the listed Trading Rules and Tips. I would also add that this isn't an all encompassing list... but one thing I would say, is always exercise caution when making a trade with a new trading partner. Do everything you can to learn as much about the person you want to trade with as possible. Invariably, the vast majority of bad trades, involve trades between individuals who have never traded with one another before (at least that's the impression I get from reading over the various threads in this forum).

Really, really hate seeing this sort of thing...

@John_M @Todd @F2brewers @blue-dream There has been at least one instance where the bad trader's actual name was posted. Given this member has 3 bad trader threads, with at least two people still owed beer, this bad trader might be 'worthy' of such escalation.

Note, I don't think it needs to be said, but just in case, this isn't something that regular BA members can undertake. I'm not certain whether or not the mods are permitted to make the decision. It is a major decision, reserved for the more egregious traders, & should remain so.

    Hi Jacinta.

This is something we would seriously consider in this instance, especially if @Sergeh doesn't show up with his side of the story.

    The clock is ticking.

Note that in another measure to try to help other traders who may be aware of this (actually these two) bad trader threads, @blue-dream has posted links to them in the profile of user @Sergeh

    Clock is still ticking...

This is an AWESOME idea! You need to publicize that this can happen to people if they flake on trades. Would serve as a further deterrent.

Well at that point we would see he was on and the ban hammer would come down. We are constantly try to come up with ideas that can help, even if its only a little help, its something.

I have made this suggestion before, but will throw it out there again. When someone reaches this level of attention from the mods, their access to the site should be restricted to the thread calling them out. If they appear and respond to the thread, then opening up their access to full site can be considered.

From LOE standpoint, I believe the mods are already putting in the time to accomodate this. Programming wise I have no idea what it would take, but this functionality is similar to the policy on place now where people have to accept trade terms before getting access to trading forum.

He is restricted now, he can't trade. I believe @F2brewers or @Todd did that.

That's an administrative change that I believe only @Todd can make. I don't think we could build a "system" to accommodate this automatically...it would always be on a case by case basis.

He could, but it can be changed, and he would be banned anyways, so it serves no purpose for him.

Alot of coding involved in this: it's an idea tossed around, but if possible, I'd personally lock down someones account to ONLY this forum to answer the call when someones been reported as a bad trader. Clean it up, and your access is expanded, and your trading is limited, perhaps with a note to all incoming trades to be aware of shortcomings for the next couple of trades.

We are working on it though, and trying to find ways to make it safer, and easier.
