I wasn't trying to bash you, just letting you know unless it's a 1:1 of some really hard to get things it's almost always not worthwhile doing such a low dollar value trade when you factor in shipping, packing materials, etc.

Then again, as writerLJBerg pointed out, you sort of dodged a bullet if this was the trade that went south. At any rate, sorry to hear and thanks for warning the community.

If the whole point of this thread is to let others know not to trade with someone, it is extremely helpful for general questions to be asked/answered. One of those questions is: did you reference check? Clearly, you did not. No one is bashing you for it, but it remains important to point out to less experienced traders that many, many, many 'bad trades' could be avoided by a minute of diligence.

Actually, no, there is a greater purpose. Threads like this raise great awareness about what new traders do wrong all the time. If you just said what you said and left it at that, you would have succeeded at stopping trades with billystills, but done nothing to solve the underlying problem for anybody else. But by having the peanut gallery chime in about what to do better next time, there may be 100 other noobs reading this who now know to check for references and not trade with other noobs.

Nobody is bashing you per se, people are just getting really tired of seeing the same noob mistakes happening over and over and over again around here lately. 9 out of 10 of these bad trader threads are avoidable, and the more the community talks about how to do so, the better off everybody is.

Ok cool. I did check the bad trader list. I assumed that since he had trades listed, that he was being honest cuz people could obviously contact those people. I went to each of those 'successful traders' profile pages and some had him listed as a successful trade (I'm assuming friends who agreed to vouch for each other), some did not but no one had him listed as a 'do not trade with...'. Basically, I did everything short of actually contacting the people listed because I am a trusting lady. Lesson learned, and good for other noobs to learn. I also went to that blogspot post prior to this trade when I joined my first BIF. Learned the beauty of shippers and how to pack awesome 40+lb boxes. Definitely recommend it to other NOOBs to check out.

Wait - you saw that before your trade and you still made the trade?

No one had 'do not trade w/ him'. I said no one stated that, I didn't say someone did say that. For example, in my profile it now says 'do not trade with Billystills', essentially. If I had seen that, obviously I wouldn't have signed on. I'm saying that I didn't see that in any of the profiles he traded with.

I cant believe someone would ship one bottle where shipping was probably twice the cost of the bottle.

This was the first tip that could have saved you. Always check references. Always. Be aware of your instincts. If you have the slightest feeling of unease about a trade, don't make it. This guy not being listed by some other traders should have set off your spidey sense.

I "kind of" disagree...Some people have so many trades they dont list everyone..I get what your saying, but I have come into that before..

And I know what you are saying, some folks don't put up all their trades (I don't) and there may be a legit reason.

I always check references. I always pay attention to signs like that. I have done 100+ trades. I have never had a problem. Coincidence? You decide.

That's fine - I'm sure I've missed a trade or two on my list by accident. But that's a great reason to actually send that person a BM and ask why the trader isn't on their list.

I don't care if he was swapping a single BMC for another, and could care less about the shipping cost. The fact it he did his part, and the other guy burned him, the value is immaterial. A thief is a thief for a buck or a million.
