We agreed on a trade, he accepted the trade request, I flew out with his beers, he never showed. I'm not out of any beers, but I went through the hassle of packing and bringing his bottles with me the entire trip. Should I leave neutral feedback or just forget about this? He still hasn't read my last message here on BA, and his profile doesn't show "last seen".

Trade was accepted, you never got your beer, I could see this being a bad trade, although others may disagree. And just because you are not out beer, that isn't the only criteria for it being bad.

Bad feedback. That's a crappy move on his part.

I've said this before, many times, that not "being out of beer" does not negate a bad trade experience. If it's an experience that you'd never want to happen to another trader or yourself again, that's a bad experience and the trade feedback should reflect that. It's a negative feedback and his potential trade partners should know about it.

How long has this person been a member? How many completed trades? You could @mention them here and see if they will come on here and give their side of story.

It's bad trader behavior indeed, but I wasn't sure whether to give bad feedback or just leave it be. Thing is, the guy has been a member since 2011 and has 25+ trades with 100%. Would've been easier if I could see if he's been online or not, but all I know is he hasn't read my messages since 4/27.

So you think I should tag him here?

I fly with beer for IP trades pretty frequently, and I'll say that if I took all the hassle of flying that beer out only to be stood up, I'd be pretty unhappy. One could argue that it's more work to fly with beer than shipping it, because not only do you have to pack it very well, but then you are required to transport it yourself for the remainder of the trip (minus the time in the airplane). If they didn't reply to my messages after not showing up for the trade I'd have no qualms about leaving negative feedback.

    Negative feedback seems pretty appropriate.

Doesn't the feedback get wiped if his partner doesn't also leave feedback though? So isn't this moot? Or am I misunderstanding how the system works? (I am new to trading on BA.)

I think this is only if both parties don't leave feedback.

Isn't this a case of misaligned incentives? If you create a bad-trade environment (as a bad trader), isn't the optimum solution to just never provide feedback? Even if you have (as is the case here) 100% good feedback with a reasonable # of trades. If you make 1 bad trade, you can keep that off the books by just never responding. That seems to favor the bad trader since no one will probably search for 'bad trader threads' for someone with 100% feedback, right?

I interpret this to mean if both users don't leave feedback it's get wiped.

All I can say from experience.....is that I left feedback for a trade awhile back. The other trader NEVER left feedback for me. It was an *open* trade that stayed there lingering. Many traders had the same thing happen to them.

It was brought up in many discussions on what we (the site) could do to help in these situations.

My *open* trade went bye bye.

    Open Trades (Partial Feedback)
    • After 180 days, open trades with partial feedback are closed.
    • We eventually plan on doing something creative with this data.
    Happy beer trading.

My apologies....I copied the wrong one, you are correct @jrnyc ....my open trade was with *partial* feedback.

I'm with you on this BEERschlitz. I also do a fair number of IP trades, mostly as a courtesy to my trading partner (despite the hassle). There's no worry about FEDEX or UPS losing the box or breaking the contents, no weather concerns, and there's also a cost savings (unlike a number of traders I gather, I/we share shipping costs). Frankly, if one of my trading partners stood me up like this, that would pretty much end our relationship (as I'd be more than just a bit pissed off).

@dmbforever. What do you think about moving this thread over to the Bad Trader forum? While I don't think there's anyway to make the OP "whole" in this case, I think it would be worthwhile to hear what @bugdoc has to say for himself, and if necessary, warn the community about his behavior/actions. Frankly, the fact he has 25+ trades with 100% positive feedback is even more reason to take this action (IMHO).
