Understandable. My opinion is that even small barriers which add to additional effort needed to (re)create a new account will often deter these types of individuals from doing so. And my hope is that there is some check in place to be able to prevent these type of individuals from being able to simply create a brand new account with the same effort that it takes a new user who has never been on Beer Advocate to create an account.

Agreed. An IP-ban should be an option and while there are ways to get around that, it's an additional barrier that's already going to deter a lot of people.

Suspect it's strategic? With 0 trades and 0 feedback, it'd be tough to convince anyone to give up something like an assassin. With TH cans, many people get them, they are not super valuable, and it's easier to find someone who may let their guard down in a rare bottle for volume trade (through excitement, habit, whatever).

I got burned by @OSU91 as well, sent nearly $50 worth of Tree House and was ghosted. Did he give the name Daniel Panos on the shipping info for you?

Like you lamented as well, should have done my due diligence and looked at the account age and trade history but I've had nothing but good luck trading up till now and it didn't cross my mind.

This sucks. What kind of lowlife does this? We need some grade A sleuthing to find this guy and not let them get away with this.

Technically, you need three murders over some time before you are classified as a serial killer. This guy more fits the profile of a spree killer. But yeah, not good.

Thanks man that's super kind, sent one each of Baby Bright, Sssappp, Aaalterrr Ego, Doubleganger, Super Typhoon, Julius, Haze, and two stouts that might have been secret stairs or super secret stairs, maybe Pm Dawn?

Honestly not missing the beer I sent too too much, would have traded it to someone else if not him - I mostly trade away my Tree House hops. Was supposed to get some stuff from Hair of the Dog in return; AftW, Don, and Doggie Claws. I still have remaining cans for about half of what I sent him.

Yep, that's the name I got. Did he give you an Oregon, OH address?
Only thing I could find with that name in Oregon, OH was an obituary.

Yup, he did, unsurprising it's a false name but curious if the address is real or perhaps a neighbor like someone suggested

This is certainly a new one for me on here - Giving the wrong name of a real person who is deceased for over 2 years. One wonders how long it took this ass to come up with this idea. What a piece of work. If I were the Danos family I'd want to know that this POS was using my deceased family member's name to fleece people. Because that's what is happening here.

How does it get delivered though? Fake name and address, but the boxes are still being delivered is odd. You'd assume they'd just return to sender in these cases. Heck my grandma sent my nephew a card recently for his wedding, but wrote the brides parents names on the card thinking the invite came from them. USPS sent it back to her even though it was his address and just the wrong name. I'm really hoping someone out there has some info on this because this person needs to be caught. This feels a lot like a few years back when he who mustn't be named was stealing beer with fake re-waxed TG.

As was mentioned, looks like the address is a low-income apartment complex, specifically for seniors. Found the obit for Daniel Panos, but that name on White Pages pings a relative with the same name, if accurate. Shot in the dark guess is Grandpa Panos passed 2 years ago, Daniel Jr. (supposedly aged 50's) may live at the address given and could be OSU91, but more likely his son is OSU91 and is routing the packages to his father's address as one (very poor) degree of separation. Just a shoestring theory though

*EDIT - doing the math, assuming "OSU91" is Ohio State University, class of 91, that would peg him right around 50 years old, so could very well be Daniel Panos Jr., son of the Daniel Panos in the obit. Seems dumb to use your real name and address and I might be grasping at straws and he just plucked this random name as a pseudonym.

Depends on the carrier and the area I think. There was an article in DC a few years back about how dealers would stake out houses looking for people who worked late, and then have drug shipments mailed to their houses. Worst case scenario it gets intercepted and there's nothing to link it to you, best case scenario you grab it off the porch and no one would know it was ever there.

I routinely change the name of my box recipient in BIF rounds, specifically to avoid the recipient's FedEx alerts to keep the box I sent silent. As long as it's a valid address, FedEx delivers regardless of the name on the box vs. the name on the door.

This may not mean anything, but I'll throw this out there anyway.

I think it's interesting that the shipping address is Oregon Ohio, and that a lot of the beers he's offering in trade are from Oregon (made right here in Portland actually). The BA Barleywine from HOTD (the Don) was only recently released, is only available in magnums, and just seems like a pretty esoteric trade offering (even for someone living here in PDX, but especially for someone from Ohio).

Also, while OSU are the initials for Ohio State University, they're also the initials for Oregon State University.

I had posted an ISO for Don, AftW, and Doggie Claws, which he responded to - I don't believe he made any posts himself about having those beers, the only threads I see his account starting are offering Bourbon County variants FT.

I would say, and most Michigan grads/fans would agree, this behavior fits the profile of someone who spent time in Columbus more than it would someone from anywhere else.

I found that odd as well...

@dogdrule and @JBYRD64 was the address you had actually on Oregon? Or Northwood or Rossford? The guy has a string of addresses and telephone numbers that I saw. Awesome saw some potentially negative things on one of those free background report sites. Have to pay to see the actually information, so never can tell if they're being truthful until you pay (which I'm not).

Anyway... this guy is long gone. I'm amazed that someone put the time and energy into pulling this amount of beer.

Incidentally what is the penalty for such transgressions - purgatory in a beer free hell? Sorry to hear these type of predators exist but I believe in karma and i have no doubt they'll get theirs.

That link actually has a bag of dicks that you can purchase. They're edible, but I guess all dicks are edible if you're hungry enough.

Funny thing is, the first thing that actually comes to mind with the 'bag o dicks' thing isn't actually porn or something inappropriate, but instead the episode of Boondocks:
